You can do some light work, but to much stress can cause them to not take or abort. But be careful because even light work with this summer hear (even early in the AM or late in the PM can cause to much stress.

I saw a bitch last month running a HT when she was 2 weeks from delivery. Had 9 healthy pups. Talk to your vet. Perhaps Dr. Ed could weigh in on this too?

I ran a bitch until she was about 45 days pregnant. I just avoided overexertion and rough terrain. She placed in a qualifying at about 45 days and then I put her on the shelf because she was getting big. She had 10 healthy pups. Obviously, this is just anecdotal evidence, but I did it based on the advice of a couple of vets who have sporting dogs.

We just had a litter, we let her do light work for about 3 weeks after a surgical AI.
Just to hot and humid to take a chance on an expensive litter of pups and Momma Jesse.
Good Luck

She needs to stay in shape throughout the pregnancy, but from day 10 thru 25 I like to not work hard, just take for a walk around the pond each day. This period is critical because blastocystes implant in wall of uterus and become embryos that will develop important organs during that time.

If I recall, 14 days after breeding with AI frozen stitches were removed and my girl was clear to return to work. Then we worked up until she no-longer wanted to work.

^^This. I keep my bitches active, but I wait until about 4 weeks in.

i hunted my girl upland while she was prego and had 9 healthy pups. the dog will work until you tell her to stop so it is on you to make sure she doesnt over do it.

Two different dogs 4 litters. The first three the dogs were hunt tested and trained until about day 40 starting 2 weeks after bred. Two litters of 12 and one of 8. Both litters of 12 were done in less than 4 hrs. The 4th time dog two got her MH title and client took her home and did nothing, had problems with delivery of 7. I'm a firm believer to keep them in shape for easier delivery. I have one pregnant now at about 37 days and is still working some but not as much as the others did because it's hot. Doing some wagon wheel lining, swimming and some short easy blinds early in the am is about all I do with her.

For the other nerdsl like me...an actual study on benefits of exercise. That being said, I am careful around implantation time. In cattle, which I work with, we know that heat can cause reabsorbtion of embryos, so I am a little more careful early on in pregnancy in the summer.

I feel strongly about exercise/conditioning, however, there are always added concerns w/ competition and training w/ regard to exposure to other dogs. Mine are generally doing 3 mile offlead romps up until ~10 days before, but not much in the way of stress/training just to be conservative. Of course if I had an oops, I'd probably always have at least 12 healthy pups.
