We've got a 1 year-old pup with a very unique coat. I'm just curious if anyone as seen similar dogs (other than golden doodles or Chesapeakes :) ) . Her coat is extremely short, thin, and super curly. The texture is more wiry or wooly than soft.

Yes, both my girls are short haired Golden's...they both are top field lines, and the breeders are trying to get the shorter hair, works better in the field, and you get all the good stuff that Golden's bring forward! On the left is Maddie (10yrs) and the right is Foxy (19mo.) Foxy is also shown on my post icon...Foxy's mother is a Topbrass dog.....from Jackie Merten's

Yes, have seen a couple of these "Brillo-Pads". :p In actuality, they pick up cockle burs as well as the "regulars.

That's good to hear. I was concerned that she might have a thyroid issue or something. I'm still a little concerned about how thin her coat is. Hopefully her undercoat thickens up as the weather cools. We hunt over water all winter. Those are beautiful dogs in the pictures above. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

While the curly coat would not bother me, I would still run a thyroid panel to ensure there is no underlying issue with the thinness of the coat. I have a young Golden whose littermate has a "brillo" coat. My pup has a wavy coat but it was very thin and had a harsh texture. When tested, she was hypothyroid. Supplementation has made a huge difference in her coat as well as her overall health.

Alex on the left has that tight wavy coat, Gus has the typical Golden coat. Alex's as much better for hunting, it sheds burrs and repels water better.
Nice pic.

I agree about shedding the water. I even had a hard time bathing my dog.

My last girl had a "correct field coat" as the breeder called it. Fairly short hair, light feathering, slightly wirey but still soft to the touch, repelled water and dried in minutes. Her coat was flat with slight waviness along the spine. I will find a picture tonight. I have seen some really curly goldens but none with really short curly coats like that.

My dog was from FC-AFC Mioaks Main Event x Mishka's Mission Impossible. Several commented that he looked a little like a Chessie. Very wavy down the spine. Not much feathering.

Current dog (bitch) is Firemark's Prayer Of Jabez x Master's Love Em Or Leave Em. Short tight coat, dries easily. Feathering in the rear.

Burdock would not get entangled in either ones' coat. Tick trefoil did but not so bad. Wouldn't want any other coat type for a hunting golden if possible. I do both upland and water.

Where did that 'red' girl come from, what line of Golden's? I have a fairly new girl and she looks very similar. Her bitch was a Jackie Mertens girl and her father was Yukon's Copper Penny...just thought they may be related....
Oh well, tried to PM you.
