Dan and Gloria Devos, from Ontario, Canada winter in Eufaula from around Thanksgiving til the first snake crawls across the road in the spring.

Outstanding trainers.

Sandie Bond will be heading south shortly and is based from November to April in the Greensboro / Demopolis area.

Dan and Gloria DeVos are probably the closest field trial pros to you in Eufaula. However, if you're interested in training your dog yourself with some expert guidance, Lanse Brown is up near Troy in Banks. Lanse is one of the most successful field trial Amateurs around and you'd be hard pressed to find someone that knows more than he's already forgotten. Offer to throw birds for him and you might get an opportunity to learn from one of the best.

Anybody know how to get in touch with Lanse? I live about 45 minutes from Troy and am trying to develop my pup as best possible.

Lanse will temporarily be on the DL/PUP list until after Thanksgiving if he listens to his Dr. But if u know Lanse there is little to no chance of him doing that LOL

Noah Spitzer is an excellent trainer. My suggestion is different. There is a hunt test hosted by Black Warrior Retriever club and North Alabama Retriever club being held at the State Cattle Ranch in Greensboro on Nov 7-9. Ride up and see what the game is all about. Many of the states hunt test pros & Ams will be there. It will give you a chance to meet people & evaluate the end results of training.

Or 10/31 through 11/2 while Magnolia and South Mississippi do the same thing. Same place, same people, different date.

I heard the absolute best place to see the dogs work is from the flyer station. Do you have a shotgun? :)

Jill Volsch of Morningside Retrievers in Havanah, FL. May be a little more than 2 hrs. She is an excellent dog trainer and can train you to handle your own dog. She is very welcoming to clients training with her. Good facility and access to excellent training grounds. She trains for hunting and hunt tests, not field trials.

Always watch a trainer train and see their facilities. Watch them run multiple dogs, not just one or two.

There is a closer trainer that trains for hunting dogs, but not hunt tests- so if hunt tests is what you want, ask to be sure they do it.

I'm going to make sure and be there so I can learn and meet some of the guys. My office is only 5 miles up the road so it's convenient enough. This will be my first event to attend.
