I recently lost my hunting partner to an accident and I am now considering a new pup. My last dog ( German wirehair) was an excellent hunter but was a little high strung to be in the house. The family is really pushing for a house dog and I cannot really fault them. I guess I am looking for a dog that would be a great house dog that could be hunted occasionally. I realize that I could probably take a risk and purchase a lab or golden from the newspaper , but I would rather select proven lines that produce what qualities I am looking for. So if you have any breeders of lines of labs (the family wants a yellow ) or golden that meet my needs I would appreciate suggestions.

I would suggest you list the state, part of state you live in , the approximate purchase price you want to pay, degree of training you plan and are capable of doing , clubs you belong to or etc...I am sure there will be tons of suggestions but buyer beware in all cases..just like used trucks...

Good that you're doing your research. Don't go the newspaper... you're committing to a partnership for you and your family for the next decade or more. You want a nice temperament in a dog that won't be chronically ill or unnecessarily crippled. As part of your research, look into the array of health clearances you should insist upon from the breeder that provides your pup.

I am from Ohio... I am not sure on my price range (I have bought week bred dogs in past so I am familiar with costs)... I am just looking for a dog I described and with appropriate health clearances...
