We have a vet appointment at noon today for our 11 yr old BLM. He is passing blood in his urine. Couldn't get him in any sooner due to vets holiday schedule and the ice storm. He has been dripping small amounts of blood for 4 days but doesn't show any signs of pain, etc. We take him out to go pee every hour or so. First red blood comes followed by normal colored urine. Anyone else have this problem? I've had males like forever and this is a first for me. Thanks for your thoughts!

Just battled this with Butthead (aka Bullet - 12 years old)....treated as UTI, resolved, came back with a vengeance, treated as an infection in the prostate after consulting an internal medicine vet. Bullet's incontinence also "complicated" symptoms - inability to totally void bladder provided another location for infection to set in....gotta love the older dogs. He's "cured" now, but it took awhile to pin down.

Not with a lab, but had a bulldog with a uretha prolapse that bled like hell. They did a uretha pexi to fix it.

Dr Nate...right you are. He has a very much so enlarged prostate AND bladder. It's not looking good for Blu. They sent off a urine sample to check for cancer cells and put him on 100 mg of Zeniquin. With luck, that may clear up the infection that is causing the blood in his urine. No, he hasn't been neutered. His prostate has several cysts growing on it. We return in 2 weeks for further evaluation.

Thanks much, Fom, Freezeland and Dr Nate
