Welcome to the RTF and the game. hopefully you will look back at your beginins and smile at how far you have come.

Thanks for also making the state of Missouri a little more golden. BTW the golden club having a Field Trial the 23rd, 24th and 25th.

I live just a few miles west of Columbia. I've been to a few hunt tests in Sedalia and Smithville and one field trial. (the GRCA National - definately the highlight of my year!) I've learned a lot from watching and hopefully I'll be on the line someday with my golden girl.

And Dale... I wouldn't have it any other way. =)

Welcome to this crazy dog sport.

We live at Williamsburg, MO, (exit 161) just about 35 miles east of Columbia. If you read the thread http://retrievertraining.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=41555
we will see that we are trying to get another AKC club in the central Missouri area.

We are getting ready to start our spring (March, April and May) FT circuit in a few weeks with our young dog Dazee so we will be concentrating on working with her. At the same time, I will be working on getting this club off the ground. My personal email address is . . . dkbohn@ktis.net . . . drop me a note there and I will put you on our contact list for when we have the "re"organizational meeting. We want to have as many interested people there as possible so we can discuss the direction of the club to address everybody's needs and get it operational.

Hi Leah, Everything Ken Bora said is true. My husband acts as though he's lost me to a gambling or drug addiction at times :roll: He has been helpful and patient, but cant tell you how many times he asks me" cant we talk about something other than dogs :?: I just started training in Oct of '06 with my then 15 month old BLM. I got a lot of really great help and ideas, also ate plenty of crow for "wrong headedness" a time or two. Folks here are not shy. From the wild ass out of control maniac I had 5 months ago, we entered our first (club trial) derby 2 weeks ago. Though we suffered severe operator errors, (I froze completely and husband had to step in and run him for me) my pup was a marvel to watch. I almost cried just looking at how far he has come in spite of me. Welcome to the circus, hold on tight and enjoy the ride :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Just as an aside -- if you get a chance check out Lainee's website with piece on Ribbonosis -- Lainee posts here on RTF as "FOM" -- she's a regular

Ken, everything you wrote was true, but I can really relate to this one. Lots of farm ponds in my area and I have seriously considered approaching complete strangers about potential training grounds/water. I haven't quite come to the point of going to search the tax records for contact information, but I've considered it!

Do it! Your absolute best friend is the local town clerk, here in Vermont anyway. Most are small rural offices, bring in a dog (on leash). Ask to see the town map and say your looking for a land owner and why. I have even found fresh training sites this way from town clerks saying "I know where you should try" places I never knew about because they are hidden from the road. Then you can approach the farmer knowing who to ask for and who owns the land.
