I See a lot of these used for training and trial guns. Great guns letting all know the price of the older models are out the roof. May no longer be the ole training gun. The 80‘s 90’s models are $$$

I had a 50s model 870 that a friend used for years and when he moved, I said it’s yours. He doesn’t duck hunt any more, I wonder if he still has it. I love the old 870s but the new expresses not so much. Old adage you get what you pay for.

The new autoloaders are so reliable with softer recoil, I can’t imagine why anybody would want a pump. That said I promised myself to get my grandpas model 12 out of the safe soon on the 5 stand course.

About 25 years ago my friend gave me his high end 870 he won in a poker game. I have used it in training ever since. I have run over it twice in the dark. Once with my pickup and once with my mule. It keeps on ticking.

I had a friend that has now passed away from ALS and he would throw an old 870 in his boat and spray it with WD 40 on the way to the blind. It never got a full cleaning or the rust fully knocked off of it, but it fired every time. After season, it stayed on the boat until next season.

The rumor was that Yesterday, March 1th,, Remimgton re-opened, (New Owners)and the first production was going to be the 870.. Chatter however said plant was very quiet.. supposedly, they brought back 200 key workers that understood the dated machinery.. IMHO,, If the new product comes out with no improvement in quality than what they were producing before they closed,, They will fail again.. The 870 holds a special place in the cabinet.. I have had several Wingmasters over the years.. My current is a Trap model,,and a model called a "Sportsman" that was the precurser to the express... It has a broken ejectot, the weak link of the 870.. a rivited part in reciever, thats a bit fragile,,and a pain to replce when it breaks.. Parts now are Non exisistent.. if you do find any,, they are being sold as gold.. I have migrated to model 12's.. Wonderrful guns....

Im pulln for Remington!! I would LOVE to see those guns again.. Both the 870 and the 1100..

Some beautiful Model 700's with nice Walnut stocks would be nice too... Not a fan a Plastic,,and NO, you cant convince me otherwise... A gun is to be deeply blued,,and dressed with exquisit Black Walnut..period.. :) and triggers that reliably beak like glass, if you sneeze..... :)

When I used to shoot a lot and reload a LOT of ammo,, I bought my shotshell PRIMERS in lots of 10,000... If I did that today,, I would have to take a second mortgae out on my house.. Primers have gone crazy, in price .. Folks gouging because there just arnt any.. Been that way for almost a year.. Powder is just as bad....

So, rush out and purchase a new gun! Good luck finding ammo, or components to roll yer own.. Sad Times..

where we live though,,,, PLENTY of Toilet paper..

With all due respect to the venerable 870, the guns of choice for training , trials, and tests should be break action (O/U S/S and singles). Not always possible, but certainly desired from a safety standpoint .(y)

With all due respect for Mike, when a weak link gives, and you can pick another one up at any pawn shop for $125, is it really a weak link?

But i guess that $125 thingy is over now.:(

In the dog sports managed by the AKC every event requires break action shotguns except the retriever sports ( hunt test and field trials) where break actions are recommended but not required
I ve always wondered why that is

I like my 870 and model 12 s however my very favorite is a Remington 17. Ah the stories!

All Remington models are drawing a premium .... Pawn shops basis for business is demand value.. If something becomes collectable, and has a high value, its barter price is reflective..

If Remington does make a successful come back will there be a demand (High prices) for Pre 2021 Remingtons?

There is no Remimgton AMMO made anymore! Its supposed to come on line soon! (Rumor) Will the desirable 1 piece Plastic Remington spent Shotshell hull become collectable/ desirable? if the "New" Remington hull is a cheapened down (Crappy grade of plastic,2 piece hull) that other manufactures offer now??

other "examples"

!944 silver penny (Philidelpia,)

a 5 $ goldl piece...

a #2 Stanley Hand Plane (woodworking)

a full bottle of 20 year old Chivas Regal or a bottle of fine french wine stopped out by some old french feet! (Yuck)

Winchester Model 12's prices have been inflated for decades now... most all pre '64 Winchester models are.... They do fluctuate.. Many many Faked guns out there that steal the un -educated money..

If Remington does make a successful comeback will there be a demand (High prices) for Pre 2021 Remingtons?.. Will pre 2021 "Wingmasters" be a Picaso? The market will define it,,

Of course,,if there aint no bullets......... :) Its a pipe with a handel.. :)

Its very difficult to " Roll yer own" if its near imppossble to get just one component of a bullet..... a Primer...

You dog trainers! Go purchase some primers for yer Zingers!! They are practically impossible to find.. Unless of course,, you deal with folks who have stored inventories of them Gunsale sites) ,,and they are demanding shocking prices for them right now.. and have been, for over a year...

of course all the above should be taken in jest!

Counseling has taught me to look on the bright side... At least we can buy toilet paper, without going to Pawn shops to pickup the broken link .. I can t Imagine a roll of well used in a Pawn shop for a bargain price.. Some Pawn shop deals are hardly a bargain,,, Electric tools, Toilet Paper,, and Guns can be a few..

Remember,,,, right now that pawn shop Remington that may need a part..... that part right now is almost un available....

Flintlocks . ball round bullet molds.. are going to be en- vogue! and guys are gonna need skills to get close enough to fill a freezer.. !

Im spending days out in the sticks collecting arrowheads too!! Jusy wait!!

Im screwed if lithium becomes hard to get, (obviously)

Being the shrewd business tycoon that I am,, I purhased this about 5 years ago in a Pawn shp located in Las Vegas..

The guy who sold it too me os a deadringer for Homer Simpson,,,, anyways,,,

I 's paid 5 grand for it... A Remington belt buckel, dispalyin one a them dogs that afraid to move,,and a 870...

The back of the buckel deems it made by Tiffany!! New ,YORK! no less!!! It also responsibly reminds us of our second ammendmment... (if we can get PRIMERS)

I will offer it to RTF members Only (Cary in particular) for 10 grand.. I'll pays shipping and insurance..
