In the FT vs Show points thread Paul accused Happy of being contrary I responded that contrary was my title and proud of it. I dont see where Happy was contrary. I have never judged because I was a gun dog pro for 10 t0 12 years.
I have always wrestled with what some would call contrary. My thoughts come from training ideas not judging. I have been labeled as a contrary trainer simply because I do some things differently. I have trained my own dogs for about 25 years and lots of others for half of that. I have found things that are not the mainstream ideas about training but worked well for me. I mostly do follow mainstream methods but some of my ideas are dismissed as contrary but they have worked extremely well for me.
My question is where would we be without contrary?? Do not new and different ideas come about by being contrary? Some are afraid to be different because it is contrary to what is considered THE way to do things. Where would we be without new and different ways of doing things?? This applies to everything not just dog training.
