I usually dont run mine until its healed I worry about infection, I do use liquid bandage on it once its sealing over. My dogs get cut alot on glass and clam shells, I use peroxide at first to clean it , than soak it twice a day in a tea color solution of betadine and warm water for 5 min than dry it . I usually dont put any ointment on it since it encourages them to lick at it, and if they are bothering with it I cover with a sock. Only had a Dr stitch one and it turned out awful once stitches came out we had to start all over again, they heal from the inside. If there is a flap of pad where the dirt can get under it, my vet will cut that off. Some start antibiotics I have but only twice where it was very deep. The last one took 4 weeks to heal was a glass cut but most heal in about 10 days.

Ria sliced a pad on the index toe of her right foot 2 years ago and she did nothing for 10 days. It was a L shaped cut and we kept it clean and used vet rap to keep it closed when she walked on it.

Use EMT gel twice a day and rest until healed. I've had pads that were cut nearly in two heal in 3 days with that stuff, it is a miracle product. Personally I don't like the spray, I use the original gel and put it on thick.

GMHR1, you have Clam shells in AZ??? Hows that? Are they some form of fresh water clams or are they like fossils from a dry stream bed. Just curious. Oyster shells here wreak havock when the dog decides to do some unauthorized swimming. We use the betadine and vet wrap as well. But it still takes time.

years ago i had my lab step on a broken bottle during training on a Sunday. Sliced his paw up pretty good. All the vet clinics happened to be closed at that time.
So for a crazy idea i tried super glue. Worked great and would use it again if i had to.

I like EMT gel but it sure never helps my dogs with a cut pad all they want to do is lick the stuff off , Yes they are fresh water clams shells we train alot in the river if its not glass its clam shells
