Hello guys im new to the forums and just recently got 2 Black Lab Male pups. What i was hoping for is if someone would be able to help me search for the pedigrees for the sire and/or dam of the pups.
I am wondering why you weren't provided with the information when you purchased the pups...Also if possible it would be cool to get the owners names if they show up. They are AKC registered dogs but i just dont know if they may be different dogs im really not sure how that works haha thanks
Hopefully it will work out but there's a good chance the litter will never be registered. If the sire is Duke Burke (color black), age 13 1/2 +, the AKC may not register the litter without a lot of documentation since that is generally considered to be too old to breed. If he does not have the dam's papers and has not already registered the litter, he does not sound like a responsible breeder. That is consistent with breeding dogs that have not had their basic health clearances prior to breeding. I would suggest getting both pups thoroughly checked by a vet as soon as you can. If being able to register the dogs is important to you -- as it should be if you ever want to compete in AKC events or if you paid for AKC pedigrees -- you may want to do what you can to protect yourself. In my personal experience, breeders that do not have AKC registration papers available when you buy the pup generally are not able to produce later either. They operate on the assumption that once you love the pups you won't complain. The guy i bought them from said he lost the dam's paper work and had to reget it to register the litter. i saw both parents. I looked online and got her number but have to call him to let him know and hopefully he will just do it online with the number and i can get my pups registered as well.
You can't beat the price. As a matter of interest, was the sire black and did he look like he was almost 14? I'm still wondering if he's actually the father, and envying him if he waswell these dogs were actually free. they were the last 2 in the litter so i took them both. I really hope they were the runts and they have been checked by a vet. The reason i say i hope they aren't the runts is simply because when i took them to the vet at 13 weeks they were 21 lbs each which from what i've read they are pretty big for their age. I thought also that i wasn't going to receive any papers but then i found the names of the Sire and Dam on the AKC website so then i had hope i called him when i found the name and number of the damn but he didn't answer i left a VM and he didn't return the call so now i'm back to thinking i won't get papers. They are very smart dogs and are beautiful so the real reason i wanted papers was to compete in AKC events but i guess i could do the limited registration if needed. Just hoping the guy didn't screw me. Well as screwed as you can be with free dogs.
Enjoy the pups for what they can do. I've never met a dog that cared about its papers. For what it's worth, Duke Burke was born MAR-29-1994. Duke Burke II is much younger (2002), but is also yellow.the father was black but the guy told me he was young i forget how young he said but sure as hell know he's not 14 haha. really as long as the little guys will hunt with me im okay just depressing that someone would lie to me like that and continue to lie when i call him back weeks later. although now he hasn't been answering the phone. i hope everything works out but not looking good
