Living in TX my whole life, I've not really had much exposure to the chessie. In reading about them, both on the web and the stories in John and Amy Dahl's book, they seem to be a really interesting breed. I'm pretty sure that, if shown the "perfect" chessie I could correctly identify the chessie next to a chocolate lab. But, if you're in a rescue environment, is there anything you can generally key off of to see if you've got a chocolate lab or a chessie on your hands?
I was also wondering about the bonding aspect of their nature. Just about everything I've read about them, states that a chessie bonds strongly to a single person in the family. I've got that with my Aussie, now. She's absolutely MY dog and really just tolerates everyone else in the family. Our Golden still has bonded strongly with me, but it's obvious that she does love the rest of the family. How does that usually manifest itself with the chessie?
Thanks!
