do you have a dead duck (more scent vs pigeon) if not use the bird you got

run the dog on 1 leg of the pattern blind w/out scent, then drag the bird sveral times directly across the line back and forth and cover about 15ft area, run the dog again on the blind, use attrition to get him through the "scent", it will take some time, once concered move to the next leg and repeat etc etc.

when you move to a cold blind application make blind simple and add complexity and concepts as he progresses

Would you start by running your dog through a scented area on marks first or blinds? Would the dog be more likely to "overlook" the scent on the way to a simple mark, and then transfer this concept to blinds. Not sure myself, just asking.

I'm not sure it matters. I was going to start working on it initially as a diversion on a taught blind. After that, I was going to incorporate it into a marking setup. My dog has shown a slight tendancy to want to switch so I feel like if there is scent out there on a mark then he is going to go check it out. Maybe someone else will let us know if it matters if this is started on blinds or marks.

I do not coach in the summer time. I love coaching at my school, but I have been to a few rec league games and witnessed some terrible things...things that I have more control over as a coach for a school system! Hopefully, I will be able train more now that the school year is about over!

Hi Stephen,
I don’t have any input on the training but I have used scent in the following ways.
Hang dead ducks in trees up wind of your working area or soak the duck in water and pour the water over the bush or obstacle you want the dog to drive past. For both of these ideas you can use the old left over ducks that are no longer suitable to marking work.

I sure do like the dog in your avatar. He is a cutie!

Thanks for the idea! Cute? If you had to handle him once or twice he would show you just how "cute" he can be!
