Is hooking the gunner in and of itself grounds for elimination:-x

Is hooking the gunner and going directly to the bird a lesser "Mark" than going to the AOF on a line a much further distance "fat" then hunting up the bird?

Hooking gun, no hunt, better than, fat line with hunt.

judge the MARK not the LINE !!!!

I attended a judges seminar last week given by Mitch Patterson and Judy Aycock. Judy firmly expressed several times during the weekend that dogs "see things differently" than humans.

In her opinion dogs do not "hook" guns. The dog that gets the mark with the least hunt is the better dog. Of course if one dog has a straighter line and neither dog has a hunt, the straighterr line probably wins.

She says she like to place the marks that are tough to go straight to. This shows if a dog really marked the bird or can just "line" well. She doens't really care about the "line" to the mark.

Personally, I use the guns as not much more than a reference point.
