We have been advised that Marshall (Pete)Simonds passed away this morning. We have no details at this time, but will forward them as soon as we receive them. Pete was the Delegate for the Midwest Field Trial Club since 1992. He had previously been the Delegate for the Mississippi Valley Retriever Club from 1974 until 1983.

I saw Pete this past weekend. I am absolutely stunned. A giant in this game, a gracious and humorous friend, and someone whom I respected enormously.

My condolences to his friends and loved ones,

An icon in the game, to be sure. His impact will be felt for years to come.

I was a guest in his and Kate's home the couple of times I judged up in Vermont, and you could not find two more gracious people.

Prayers to his family. I will lift a glass to him tonight.

Our club (Midwest) will have a lot to talk about this weekend at our trial.

(I can't believe all the great people and dogs dying this year! Anyone keeping track? Geesh.)

I have a chasis mount dog box that Pete and his wife had custom built by Bush in College Station many years ago.

I never met Pete but know of his major contribution to the game. They will be missed.

Wow. I'm stunned. My condolences to his family and friends. A loss to the FT game for sure.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kate and their family. What a field trial giant.

Quick story about Pete. Many years ago we were battling AKC (hard to believe anyone would battle the AKC - huh??) about a litter registration. After dealing for almost a year with AKC "people" and spending several thousand dollars trying to right a right, we called Pete to ask his advice. Pete looked into it - LOOKED INTO IT mind you - and we got a call that it was settled!!! That was his power, his knowledge, and his ability to make things right. Thank you again my friend, we'll think of you, Kate, and your family tonight in our prayers.

I cannot remeber when Pete was not the Chairman of the Subcommittee On Rules to the Retriever Advisory Committee. Those will be very large shoes to fill. He gave much for a very long time, his power and knowledge will be missed.

I won't pretend to have known him well, but on the few occasions when I was invited to train with them, both he & Kate were helpful & complimentary of my dog when they had no reason to help someone so new to all of this. I gunned for them once & Pete was kind enough to ask me where I learned to shoot-again-no need for him to be complimentary, but he was.

An absolute class act & I can only imagine how Kate & their dear friends are dealing with the loss.

My sincere concolences to Kate and the family.

Wow what a year for losses in the community, Dan Kingston, Tony Snow and now Pete. It reminds me of a song by George Jones....."Who'se Gonna Fill Their Shoes?"

Man with each passing of someone like this I feel like an era is ending. He is another one that was bigger than life.

My condolences to his family and thanks for sharing him with our sport.
