I have tried a variety of things and the one I like the most the neighbors complain about the smell of. Right now I'm using something from the Petsmart called Nature's Miracle (I think) and I've used a Simple Green kind of thing, I've used Lysol and I've used Comet. Honestly, I like the comet best because it cleans the floor and makes the smell go away. Well, my neighbors complained about the smell of the Comet, but have never complained about the smell of dog urine during the summer:confused:.

I'm about out and am willing to try different things. The dogs are only in the kennel while I'm at work or if we leave in the evenings, when we're home, they're out. They're getting much better about going in the kennel, which means I am only cleaning about every other day now. If they pee or crap, I clean it, but if they don't I don't.
So, what do you use to clean the kennel floor?

It may sound a bit odd, but the best thing I have found is mouthwash - it kills bacteria and neutralises the odour. I use a generic supermarket brand which is fairly cheap to buy and has a nice lemon smell. I mix up a strong solution in a bucket and scrub the concrete with it then hose it off.

Regards, Jason.

In reading the product info, it seems like they want it used only on non-porous surfaces...is that true? I'd like to try it on cement pads and on porous concrete, but I don't want to take any dumb chances!

I have used it for a number of years on my concrete kennel floors, both indoor and outdoor.

As T.Mac stated, a gallon goes a long way once you dilute it. Still has the bacteria killing properties even diluted :)

Bleach.
Kennels are bleached weekly, and hosed down at least twice a day.
Granted, dogs are aired often,so there really isnt a major smell in kennels, but the yard is bleached at least weekly,or more often as needed. Bleach is cheap, and kills everything.

Yes, bleach is good. I use the wishywash with chlorine tabs at least once a week, but use Odoban daily.

I worked in a kennel with 25 runs and we used 3 squirts of Xtra laundry detergent and filled the rest of the sprayer with bleach. Ruined many pairs of pants but it does wonders!

I have used this before and can be found at many janitor supply places

Vetenall .... A concentrated disinfectant cleaner with canine parvocidal activity. Cleans, disinfects and deodorizes. Vetenall is ideal for the sanitary maintenance of animal quarters, kennels, feeding and watering devices as well as routine cleaning of floors, walls and restrooms. Vetenall kills odors caused by bacteria and leaves a light, clean fragrance. packed 4-1 gallon per case

I have used the lemon and it is not offensive.
I also have used http://www.sweetpdz.com/
It does a good job too..
I only have one rotter that routinely uses the kennel for a bathroom, the rest will almost always keep their runs clean. I have started to keep one corner of her run covered with pellets used in horse stalls. It turns to sawdust when it gets wet and easy to scoop away and I've noticed the urine smell is nonexistant

Bleach - suprisingly diluted has been my best bet. I think Steve or some of the other med. profession guys said in an earlier thread that 10% bleach in water is what they use for sterilizing labs, etc.

Yep, that's what we do.... 10:1 water:bleach...

Now, even better, except I haven't been able to find any too easily is to order powdered bleach (very cheap) and mix it yourself.

I love the smell of bleach.

Keep in mind the odor from most kennels is NOT going to come from the concrete. It's going to come from the ground where urine and feces has accumulated or sat uncleaned...

Picking up poop is the #1 thing you can do to keep your area smelling fresh. Putting lime on the urine is another thing... And of course washing down your kennels regularly regardless of whether the dogs potty in them or not. Hair and dirt that accumulates can smell just as bad sometimes...

EXACTLY KRISTIE......

There is a thing called Trail that you mix up and spray on the ground to kill the smell and wash away the urine.

Kristie, are you serious about liking the smell of bleach? We did a total scrubdown one day and I found out that I am allergic to the crap! You must have some good lungs! ;)
