The Headquarters for the 2009 National Amateur is reported to be the "Hibbing Inn". I have been unable to find the "Hibbing Inn" online, so I suspect the headquarters will not be there.

If anyone here knows where the headquaters will be, I'd appreciate any info you can provide.

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff,
It's actually the "Hibbing Park Hotel and Suites". 218-262-3481

It might be the Hibbing Park Hotel.

Grounds used are about halfway between Hibbing and Virginia. There are more hotels in Virginia and Eveleth, and others in Hibbing.

I googled "hibbing mn hotels" and got a list.

Thanks,

I've never been to that area, if anyone has recommendations (or condemnations) of motels in the area, I'd appreciate it if you would send me a PM to let me know.

Thanks again

My wife and I stayed at the Super 8 in Eveleth for the Master National in late September. Nice place. I picked it because it got the best reviews of any hotel in the area from previous guests on the online travel sites. The price was right too. Pets are only allowed in some of the rooms. If you decide to stay there, be sure to make you reservation early and ask for a pet room. The properties where they ran the Master National are all located between Hibbing to the west and Virginia/Eveleth to the east. One trial property was very close to Hibbing, one was very close to Virginia/Eveleth, and one was about half way in between, so all of those towns are reasonably close for the actual event. Training grounds were mostly scattered in the area between the three towns, with a couple more training properties about 15 miles west of Hibbing and one maybe 30 miles to the north. The Minnesota Iron Range Retriever Club website has maps that show the approximate locations of the trial grounds and most of the training properties.

Jeff

I booked a block of rooms at the Super 8 in Eveleth for the National Am.

Motel is located near the grounds.
AAA reviews were good.
They allow dogs in room. (That was not the case for most of the motels I called)

my wife and I stayed at virginia for master nationals in sept of this year at Lakeshor Motor Inn, 218-741-3360 or 800-569-8131 http://www.lakeshor.com/ they had fridge and microwave in the rooms and allowed dogs nothing great but it was fine and was pretty close to the grounds

Jeff, I believe info about the hotels is included in the online premium on RetrieverEntry.com (includes phone numbers).

Thanks, but we aren't going to make it this year (needed 1 more point)

What I need now is hotel info for the Nationals in November.

Mark,
Forest Lake Inn in Grand Rapids (30 miles west of Hibbing) has an excellent walleye dinner. It's located on Hiway 2 towards the west end of town. Good Bloody Mary's too.

Thanks. Hopefully there is some training grounds to the west.

Do they open early enuf for the Bloody's? 'Don't think your supposed to drink them after noon? Or is that gin and tonics after labor day?

Mark,

Not sure about training grounds? I Haven't trained up there, but there are lot's of pastures and open fields in the area (Grand Rapids). People are friendly and helpful.

Lot's of lakes and can be some really good fishing (walleye's) that time of year.
Lot's of good guides in the area that can take care of you if you have an urge to fish the lakes.

On the Range it's OK to drink whatever whenever wherever;).

How 'bout restaurants? I'm familar with Italian place in Chisholm and Zimmy's in Hibbing. Any others? Specifically, I'm lookin' for walleye.

Mark~

The MIRRC will be holding a Walleye dinner Monday night (June 15th) at the "Rock" in Eveleth. Same building that the Master National held their cocktail party. It's not only going to be an excellent dinner, but a nice fundraiser for the host club. See you there!
