For those that saw the test...

Why did Willie pickup the birds in the order that he did? All the other dogs that I saw picked it up right flyer, left flyer, short retired, long retired. From the gallery we could not tell if he was sent for the long retired or the left flyer. Our initial thought was that he was sent for the flyer and was splitting the difference, but the further he got, it appeared as if he knew where he was going all along.

Rorem didnt run it that way with his other dogs and Willie clearly had the strongest series (in my oppinion). Either way it was an excellent job.

Just wondering..

I did talk to someone who was running a dog that went out in an earlier series. He told Dave that he wanted to see him teach that selection technique at his next handlers semminar.

Sometimes, you have to let the dog drive. Obviously, Willie is an excellent driver.....;-)

Congrats, Dave!

What a class act-winning the National and saying how proud he was of his daughter running test dog.

Nice video. Barb younglove was the interviewer and that was the exact right question ( re the pick up sequence)!

The YBS team did a wonderful job on all the videos and Jerry's keen eye for the sport assisted greatly in which camera angles he chose.

He does - he teaches handlers to read the dog and not to talk them out of a bird when they really want it - sometimes as the handler you have to make decision and go with it, other times you have to know when to trust the dog - it is an art form in and of itself - Dave is a true artist when it comes to handling dogs.......

Once again congrats to Dave and Willie......

Glad to see Dave win a US National!
