You will need more than what's in there, but if the math works out, then I would say go for it. You can use everything in there. I don't see anything that's frivolous or unnecessary or junky. It's all good quality stuff and not a bad place to start.

Most of us end up with dozens of bumpers, in multiple colors. And then you'll need things like lanyard/whistle (I forget if it came with a whistle), starter pistol and/or 12 ga gun with blanks (sometimes more than one each), blind markers for dogs running blinds, some decoys, holding blinds, and other stuff... Some things you can live without. Some things you can't... But the kit looks like a good place to start!!

Thanks Kristie. It is true what they say, "the cheapest part of a lab is the purchase price". However, this is fine with me as you can not put a price on happiness and the better quality of life a dog brings.

I think I will go for it and hope to get out to some events / training sessions, etc... in the near future to get a better feel what other items I will need.

Packaged deals are typically a good deal if you want all the items. They are also a fair/poor deal if you don't have a need for all the stuff.

In this situation, there are quite a few things that I personally don't have a lot of value in purchasing. For instance, I made my own check cord from some rope and a metal clasp from the hardware store. I use a bucket and old bag for to carry my stuff. Heeling stick...I got one from the tree out back (don't tell my neighbor).

DVDs are helpful, but I think you'll find more value in a Puppy or Basic Training DVD rather than the Problems and Solutions DVD.

Same goes for the orange bumpers. You'll probably want to start with the white or white & black ones at first.

That's not what I would buy. They picture a whistle and a lanyard but don't list is as part of what it comes with. As far as the training bag goes who puts wet muddy bumpers in a closed up bag.

I've given my opinions on rubber duckies before.
