I have a female that was bred 24 days ago. About five days ago she stopped eating her dry dog food. She has the classic signs of morning sickness, she even threw up. She has little or no appetite for dry dog food. This is not my first litter and she is by far the pickiest bitch I have had. This is her first litter. She will not eat dry dog food. If I mix anything into it, like chicken broth, she will drink the broth and leave the food. I have tried cottage cheese and she will spit the dry food off to the side. She will eat canned dog food, cottage cheese, eggs, high protein dog treats, but she will not eat dry food. My sister is a dog groomer and gave me several free samples of dry dog food but she has no interest in different brands either. With my other females, the morning sickness only lasted a few days and then they would scarf down anything you put in front of them.

I also took her temperature and it is normal. She has had normal energy level and has not lost weight. She was a little heavier before I did the breeding. It is getting frustrating trying to get her to eat dry dog food. Any suggestions, I do have an ultrasound scheduled for next week. I have not tried tripe yet or high protein diets. Any suggestions, I am starting to feel like a short order cook.

The only thing I can think of is the Tripe but that gives me "morning sickness" just looking at it!!!:) Don't even get me started on the smell! Good luck!

Is she running a temp? I would check temp. If temp is normal, don't worry. But I wouldn't keep changing and offering her different food items as this will only contribute to the her being a picky eater. Give it a few days, keep offering the regular food. Her appetite will come back. I've always had one or two dogs go off their feed about 3 weeks post-breeding for a couple of days.

It is canned triple made for dogs. Solid Gold makes it and so do a few other companies. The frustrating part is that she will eat, just not dry dog food. I am making venison tonight so maybe that will perk her up a little.

She does not have a temperature and her gums are normal. Her water in take is normal. She has always been a picky eater. I prefer not to cook for her but at the same time, how long is too long for her to go without food? I started adding cottage cheese, eggs, or chicken broth a few days ago. This is day five.

I would just leave her dry food out if no others can eat it. Dogs will NOT starve themselves but a cat WILL! If she gets hungry enough she will eat! I know the Solid Gold Tripe very well! We sold it at the kennel I worked at as she sold only Solid Gold products and when a dog wouldn't eat we would just write up a can and mix some in. It isn't so bad except when you get a big chunk and can't help but not look!:)
