We are heading to SC in a week and a half to train and after reading the thread concerning the possible ineffectiveness of Advantix, am concerned about what to use. Have used Advantix for a couple of years with good results - we live in WY.

Thanks for any info about what our dogs should use while training in SC.

I use Comfortis. It's a chewable tablet. It's works for fleas but not ticks. The good thing about it though is it doesn't wear off when the dogs swimming.

Thanks for the information Smokin' Guns, I apprciate it. Do you do something, in addition to Comfortis, for ticks?

A friend of mine uses Advantix and highly recommends it. You should be fine.

I use the Comfortis as well. I only used one dose in July last year. Our place is a low flea/tick area and we have several of the dogs in the house. Even when we go to H Cooper Black, we rarely find any ticks.

I give all my dogs a lyme disease shot just in case of ticks but other then that I just check the dogs for them after we have left a place where they could of picked one up. They usually don't pick them up though just every once in awhile.

Lots of ticks here in Maryland. I've been using TopSpot Frontline. Even when I find one on the dogs, it is dead.

Since the local deer could care less about the electric fencing around the back field where the horses graze, I found lots of ticks on my horses. After talking with my equine vet about tick control for the horses, he suggested using the Frontline Spray. It has also helped alot with the horses!
