Didn't really mind him...he's a football icon.....better than many other color commentators.

Might have been past his prime but the team of Madden and Pat Summeral were the best in the business back in the 80-90's

Like his games but never cared for him as a commentator. He had a good career though!

He was also a great coach and IMO a better commentator than a vast majority of people in that seat. Can we really class that cynical "comedian" that sat in that seat on MNF for a couple of years a football "icon"? He was not even in the same class as Madden and they called him a "commentator".

Besides, who cannot think of Thanksgiving football without a 6 legged turkey or a turducken!

yeah never really liked him always laugh at the people that would talk about how great a commentator he was. Captain Obvious for sure!!!!!!!!!! Did you know that when the guy with the ball crosses the goal thats a touchdown??? I sure didnt till he said that one day

I do love his video games!
I work for EA, and I wonder whats going to happen to the Madden 2011. It by far is the best football game out there, IMHUOO

His son went to high school at the same time I did so I used to see John quite a bit. He's a good guy and until I recently moved, he used to live very close to me.

I am going to miss John because he does know his football. He on the local talk radio every morning and you can tell how much he knows about sports. He big on history which kind of puts the flashy new guys into place.

I thought he passed away 3 years ago??

Relax folks, it's a joke!!

I have to admit, he was a little annoying while watching a game. Stating the obvious, never shutting up the entire game, and giving his opinions that noone cared about, but a legend of the game and a GREAT video game. A name htat will forever be mentioned in football and will be missed

Good football player, great coach, marginal commentator, seems like a good guy. I totally agree with the "Captain Obvious" title. Drove me nuts when he threw out gems like, "when you're down near the end zone, what you want to do is put points on the board".

By the way, don't let this get out, but I don't think he actually invented and programmed the video game.

All that said, he is indeed a football icon and has had an impact in so many ways. He will certainly be missed.
