the Filly - Rachel Alexandra gets whipped by the boys..too bad her new owner Jess Jackson ( Kendall -Jackson wines) isnt into retriever games:rolleyes: he paid 20M for her after the Oaks...

I played two exacta boxes # 9 -11-5 and # 5 - 3 -8 along with a couple of superfecta bets in case the Filly does finish in the money

Anyone have a good recipe for Maryland Crab cakes.....

I dunno, it's been a long time since any horse won going away like she did a couple weeks ago. What was it officially........20+ lengths??????? That's huge!!!! Only thing that may hurt her physically is racing so soon afterward. She's the favorite the last I heard, so that should tell you the quality of the colts in the race!!!

How did the whole switching to that horse occur for Calvin? I never heard much about it and my paper just said that he was being interviewed while taking a break from mowing his lawn to talk about her. They said he was allowed to give tips to the new rider or something but never explained anything about the switch. I am sure I can google it but since my computer seems locked up on here and my biz emails, maybe somebody knows.

He was the regular rider for Rachel Alexandra and won the Kentucky Oaks with her so he had first choice as to her or Mine That Bird...She is the betting favorite but she was never pointed toward racing in the Preakness, only after J.Jackson bought her did they decide to run her...

I'm soooo torn between rooting for Calvin or Mine that Bird.

We saw Rachel run in the Oaks and she ran away with it, no one even close, 20 1/4 length victory. She would have set the track record had Calvin not let up at the end. She probably would have won the Derby had she run in it. I wouldn't bet against her, Calvins already won the Oaks and the Derby. The Bird won't have the rail in the Preakness. Rachel will win going away.

Mine That Bird is a smallish Thoroughbred. That should benefit him at the Preakness because of the short distance and the tight turns. However, that filly, according to the jockey, is a freak of nature: ..............ie Man-O-War, Phar Lap, Seabiscuit, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, etc. The jockey never had to use the whip on her!!!! The way both horses won, is incredible.............MTB going last to first, then going away.......................and Rachel winning by 20+ lengths going away. The last time any horse won like that in these races was in 1988 in the Belmont when Risen Star (Secretariat son) won by about 20 lengths.

It is definately a toss up on who to pick between the colt and the filly! But I am going to have to go with Mine That Bird!

Well if he'd would not have been blocked he would have won! Or if the track had been slightly longer......Mine That Bird was moving up very QUICKLY!

Fine horses both Rachel Alexandra and Mine that Bird.

If Rachel Alexandra carries weight she doesn't win either...she didn't run heads up against the colts but she did run according to the rules.

If this race was the Belmont, Mine That Bird wins going away. Another 3/8th's mile (like the Belmont) she loses, and maybe is even out of the money!!!! The jockey said that she didn't like the track, but so be it...........she won because the race track was real short!!! Nothing against her or fillies or females either!!!!!;)

Another 5 pounds and she doesn’t finish in the money....I wonder if Mine That Bird's owners wish they had enforced the rules now?

Sad part is Rachel Alexandra won't run the Belmont...she can't handle it with the colts.

If woulda, coulda, shouldas, were eggs, I'd be a chicken farmer!!!

GREAT RACE. Incredible filly (soon to be bred to a great stallion-Curlin), and a "ballsy"(or not) little gelding. WOW!!!

This could make the Belmont interesting. Triple Crown or not.

Yeah if the track would have been a little longer he would have won. She should have had to carry the same amount of weight in my opinion!

Saying Rachel can't run with the colts is stupid, she just beat 12 of them. From Horse Country, I told you so. If it ends in KY it's got to be good. The Preakness track was too short???? It's a mile and an 1/ 4.
She beat 12 colts and she ran with a weight allowance and failure to recognize that is stupid. She is a great filly and will be interesting to see if the enter her in the Belmont. I say she doesn’t have the gas for the distance.

Mind That Bird is an exceptional horse and I bet a lot of people start looking at how those New Mexico boys train horses. The horse is either exceptionally tough, training is not traditional or a combination. I NOW think this horse takes the Belmont if he runs.

Besides...everyone knows Oklahoma and Texas is REAL horse country...now we need to throw New Mexico in there ;)

To say just because Bird was closing on Rachel in the stretch and that makes him the winner in the Belmont is absurd. Mine that Bird would have 5 lengths behind Rachel in the Derby based on speed figures, and that would have made it impossible for the Bird to catch Rachel at a mile and a half. Rachel wins the Belmont after she bounced and still won the Preakness. The Jackson's will then be breeding Rachel to Curlin after the Belmont and I can assure you that 20 mil will be change.
