I rarely ever caught it but I hate to lose any show about duck hunting and retrievers. It seems all those outdoor channels only show deer hunting and bass fishing now  and DrekTV is getting entirely pricey and full of trash TV, not to mention the few channels I like are split up so you have to buy the most expensive package and 100s of channels of jenkem just to get one or two. Subscription TV is the biggest rip off.
If you tune to the VS channel on DirecTV, there is a message that says something to this effect: Comcast, which owns the Versus channel, has raised the price substantially that it will charge DirecTV to carry the channel.
DirecTV has made a decission not to carry VS in order to keep prices down.

I do feel bad for Justin though, but I suspect he will be ok......... SRS would be even less of a loss it would just be one less show with dogs playing with rubber ducks....

hummmmm...now maybe JT will have time to take me (and Gut) on that hunting trip he promised.......
Corey

I'm kind of thinking that Waterdog is folding cause of JT. Think about it. Sponsor required days in a booth, weeks away from home traveling to film the next Waterdog episode, then multiple days away to set up and run the SRS events. Alot of days away for a man with a couple of wee ones. Best of luck to both him and Shannon.

Say whatever you want but that team has brought a lot of new folks into the hunt test world --rubber ducks or real birds.

One of the best retriever shows I ever saw was the one when a dog on one of Justins' hunts fell over the front of a running boat and injured a front leg in the prop. The leg had to be amputated. At the end of the show the dog, with three legs, retrieve a goose and earned, I believe, its' GHRC title. It was an inspirational show.

Hummmmm.....never heard that one before......anybody here know anything about that???;-)

You mean GRHRCH title??

Hey Mapman,

That was Luke. He got his HRCH as therapy after the amputation. He did great on three legs for nearly 5 years after the accident. It was a rear leg...he also busted up his face and some ribs.

Keep your dogs off the bow!

Here's Luke on a Stuttgart, AR hunt with Lanny Wallace's three legged black dog Chief (in some Mossy Oak commercials/ads).

This ribbon was earned in the Waterdog show mentioned. The coolest thing about this was that Luke was the only dog to line the landblind all day...and you can hear the judge say it on the mic...

Nice memories...Luke had a great life.

Just to clear it up, WaterDog is officially going on hiatus - it might be back, it might not. Justin and Yella are taking a well-deserved vacation from hunting on film and that's the reason for its departure. It has nothing to do with Versus and DirectTV or Dish or any reason other than that.

SRS is still in production and will continue to be for the foreseeable future and will continue to air on Versus. It was moved to the third quarter this year, but Shannon is trying to move it back to the second quarter for next year.

Do you really SRS could be televised if they used live flyers or even dead ducks.. don't think so. My guess is that the handlers would rather use ducks.

IMHO Waterdog was the most important show representing the properly trained working retriever on television today.

It will be missed.

Unfortunately, Comcast (Versus) is no longer being carried by DirecTv, so that doesn't help me. As mentioned above, Comcast wanted some to charge DirecTv some outrageous amount, DirecTv refused and they could not, or have not, reached an agreement. Same thing apparently that happened between Time-Warner and the Big 10 Network. The difference is that I couldn't care less about the Big 10 Network.

I guess ???? ...... if you consider watching noisy, creepping, breaking dog a " good represenatation" of a well trained retriever.

Then Waterdog is perfect television for you. ;)

Chad

Don't know about you Kevin but I can positively guarantee you that I will NOT miss seeing JT walking around in his longjohns and I can do very well thank you without the image of Jack Jagoda portraying Santa Claus.

Still gives me the willies regards

Yella's imperfections were part of what made the show interesting. They gave her character.

But nonetheless she is QAA and a GRHRCH. Unless you are saying a dog need not be "well trained" to earn those titles?

I know of NO other waterfowl hunting show that can make anywhere near the claim of using a titled dog. FURTHER, Waterdog was at least 50% about the dogs in every episode. In that respect there is and was no comparison. It was the only one of its kind.

The loss of this show is a loss to the working retriever community.:(

yeah....that network that shows all forms of kill shots including kill shots on seals, elephants (nothing against it just saying) would not be able to have a show using real ducks.....oh yeah I am sure ALL of the shows on there are "fair chase" other than the game farm hunts......
BS

I will say WD was probably the best retriever show on TV, but remind me again of what other shows are on that are just about retrievers?????
Again nothing personal Good for JT he made some good money (I hope) and got to hunt all over the place doing the show. Good for anyone who can make a living doing what they love.

Please pour a few drops in your glass so it is only 49% empty.

I agree 100% with Kevin. Yella's rowdy nature on camera still represents more control than 90% of the gundogs in today's public marshes and meadows. She's apparently slid her poor training past enough judges to earn some pretty impressive credentials including being one of the youngest HRC Grand pass/Grand titled dogs in history.

I swear, sometimes I think folks take pleasure in seeing others fail. What a bummer. Here's to a great run and some good fun for many of us on what was undoubtedly the best hunting with a dog show ever taped.

Chad, since you are my friend I feel I can ask--

How many times did your mom and pop have to *** you up side the head and tell you to "PLAY NICE WITH YOUR BROTHER!"?

Evidently they still need to. You know alot of that stuff could have been controlled at any time Justin wanted to put the hammer down.

Perhaps Shannon should interview you for a new show since you have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express a few times.
