Leaving for Reelfoot on 1/7/10. Was wondering how the migration was going in NW Tennessee. I know a lot can change between now and then but just needed a little fix. Are the refuges holding any birds?

Thanks, Danny

I live in Middle TN and have heard mixed reviews. Some are saying Reelfoot is piled up with birds. I drive right past it on my way to SE MO to hunt. Good luck.

I just got back from my annual trip to Reelfoot. Hunted 12/17-18 out of Gray's camp. Hunting was average. There were thousands of birds in the refuge, but they didn't want to work the decoys. I've got some pictures if I can figure out how to post them. Good hunting!

We hunt the lake a couple of days and also hunt some flooded crop fields down in Owl Hoot. Good to hear the refuges are holding some birds. If anyone has any updates before the 7th I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks, Danny

I live in middle TN, but just graduated from school at UT Martin, which about an hour from there. I'm good friends with some guides and alot of guys with family blinds on the north end. (Walnut Log). What end are you planning on hunting? Right now, it really doesn't matter. Its bad everywhere. There are birds in the area, but they ain't working. Some friends hunted 12/30-12/31, and killed 7 birds in two days. They were with Fowler Point outfitters in one of the best holes on the entire north end. But, it can change any time. I've hunted that lake alot the last 4 years, and its very unconsistant. Earlier this year we hunted 2 different blinds, for 3 days in a row. Both blinds combined killed 12 the first day, 82 the second day, and 14 the third day. Its crazy unpredictable. I wish you luck tho. May the fowls of the water and air fall on you like rain! lol

We're with Tommy Hogg for a day and will probably hunt another day or 2 in a buddies blind in the Northern end. I think we access his blind from the walnut log launch. Hunting on the lake last year was poor due to the lack of water. We always have a great time though (love that Old Charter ;-)). Something about being on the Mississippi flyway I guess. We usually have a good shoot down in Owl Hoot if the weather cooperates. Time will tell I guess. If you hear any news prior to the 7th I'd appreciate a heads up. Thanks for the info.

Totally froze out and had to cancel the trip :-x:-x:-x. Not to mention burning 7 leave days at work for zilch. This really sucks.

its definitely colder than a well diggers a$$ around much of the heartland. I have a hunt planned for Saturday... I'm betting if I can even find unfrozen water I will be doing good and knockin' down birds. Single digits over night with wind chills well into the negatives.... Doesn't Mother nature know we want to go duck hunting and she is ruining our plans!

Yet another change in plans. Leaving this morning @ 9:00 am est. The area is covered up with birds and were hoping to hit the thaw just right. We'll see. Hopefully I'll have something good to report and some pictures when I return ;-).

The thaw didn't kick in and Reelfoot didn't open up until yesterday. We were able to scratch out some birds in the flooded ag fields after we busted out the ice. The TWRA estimated there were 500,000 birds on the refuges while we were there. If your heading to NW Tennessee in the next week or two you might hit it just right. Still, seeing flocks of thousands of mallards over the Isom refuge was something to see. Oh well... there is always next year.
