I'm looking at purchasing a Pro 100 G3 and have a question in regard to how the tone actually works from transmitter to receiver. I'm finding it difficult to with my current system to have the control to consistently fire off 1 beep vs. 3 beeps. I'd like to use 1 beep as a "SIT" whistle and 3 beeps as a "HERE" whistle. With my system, if you press the button and hold it, the collar will sound off about twice a second. If you follow with what I'm saying... I'd like the tone to sound off as long as I'm holding the tone button. One long tone activation = one long tone. Three quick tone taps = 3 quick tones, and so on...

Make sense?

I'm finding this is my only real hangup with my current (and apparently very unpopular) system, but I see it as a real problem for what I would like. If I can't consistently send off 3 beeps, that just isn't going to work.

Can someone give me some feedback as to how the tone feature works on the TT 100 G3?

Thanks,
Kevin

There may be some way of retrofitting your receiver to enable what you are describing, but the 100 G3 definitely does not come out of the box with that capability. If you find some way to do it, please clue us in. That could be useful for some folks here, myself included.

A quick tap will result in a single beep with reasonable predictability, but the level of precision you are looking for was not in mind when the unit was designed.

I've heard of people using the beeper as a sort of long range clicker for positive reinforcement, but, like Byron, I only use it to ensure that the transmitter and receiver are talking amicably at start-up.

anyone ever hit the beep?
I started trying the beep when I am just letting them roam around in the yard and get out of site. I will holler hear and if I dont see him I will do it again and give a beep, and he comes running.
I dont wont to nick him when he is out of site.
He will go behind the barn and start sniffing around and doesnt pay attention some times when its free time.
I think the beep breaks his concentration on what he is trailing and then he listens.
I ve only been trying it for a few days, but seems to help get attention.

Thanks everyone... it's looking like people don't really use the tone as a whistle substitute.

I have the Sportdog 1825, which it seems not many have tried - probably due in part to the fact that it's new and a lot of people have had bad experiences with Sportdog's other stuff.

Maybe I need to practice a lot more, but I just can't consistently put out the number of beeps I want - especially at a distance.

Some collars come with the vibration tool, which is used as a substitution of a nick. My husband started using the tone tool to get the dogs to come back. This worked really well. I didn't want this to be used this way, I wanted to try to use it to praise at a distance, but that plan has gone out the window. However, using it as a recall tool comes in handy with my little pup. It gets her attention. I've taken off the contact points and use it for the light and the tone.

I also use it like everyone else, to make sure the collar is on.

I think they changed the tone features on the 1825. On the older models one of the mode options is three beeps followed by a Nick with a single button push. I set it on 1 or remove the probes to work around the Nick.

I use the tone button for a single beep and the above setting for come. I find switching to the whistle later is a very simple transition for the dog. I wish SD would stop trying to fix things. Although I love the 1825 it lacks this ability.
