My vet, who admittedly knew very little about EIC, has quoted me about $ 150.00 to do the EIC test start to finish, including everything. Is this about right? I am just asking, but will probably go ahead and pay it anyway. Just wondering if this is about right? Thanks for the help.

Fill out the paperwork and take it to your vet. Have him draw the blood or do the cheek swab and have him sign his name after he verifies microchip or tattoo (if you have either). See if he has any small Styrofoam containers for blood, take this to post office or just air dry cheek swab and mail in envelope. I do this and it costs me less than $25 at the vet, under $5 postage (for blood), and $65 for the actual test.

I went in for a regular appointment and paid $15 for cheek swabs and they supplied the sterlized swabs and bags and shipping. Paid them the $65 for the University cost and they handled everything. So a total of $80

Shoot, I don't know. Maybe $20 to draw blood + U of M's testing fee? It sure ain't much. $150 sounds like an awful lot. But then again, we just got good country vets around here so.....;)

Abby,
Those days are long gone around here...... heck there are only like two large animal vets within three counties ( I have horses too)...... its a joke. And the premiums have gone way up...... Barn call nowadays is $175 to hit the door, all services paid in full by credit card that day....... no more credit. Safe to say the good ole days are gone around here..... it is a shame..... BTW, I love that song!! LOL

Cost for EIC is $65. If you do blood....it requires the cost of packaging insulated box plus ice packs ($15) and at least 2 day Fed Ex (recently ran me $45 from CA, overnight was $70). Plus the cost at the vet for the blood draw....say $20

So 65 + 45 + 15 + 20 = $145 (Approximate cost when doing blood). I think $150 at the vet office for handling the entire process is a fair price.
