I laid bermuda sod in my back yard last year that came from down near the coast south of Houston. I had to water it often last year just to keep it alive. We have had so much rain this year I thought it might drown. We also have a good crop of mushrooms. I don't know if they are poisonous or not for humans or dogs. The dogs seem to ignore them. I thought maybe there was one or two products of the '60s here that might have had some experience with mushrooms. Any ideas?

I don't know about the American version of the mushroom but we lived in Switzerland when Zucker was just a pup (6 months). I saw her snag a mushroom and it was gone before I could get it. It didn't take long before she was spewing at both ends...never seen a dog so sick in my life. Now I pick EVERY mushroom I encounter so she is never tempted again...we nearly lost her.

I have them frequently in my yard, a wide assortment. The dogs do ignore them thankfully. I haven't found anything to treat them with, I just pull them as soon as I see them, hopefully before they've spored. Over time, I have fewer of them.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I remember the toxicologist discussing mycology (study of mushrooms/fungi) back in school and I remember her mentioning that the only way to truly distinguish certain toxic types from others was by allowing them to dry (remove stem, place cap upright with 'spore side' down) on a piece of paper overnight (or longer? I can't find the information anywhere), then folding up the paper and getting the spores analyzed that dried/fell off. I am nowhere near a mushroom expert of any kind, but have chosen to only eat those sold in a well-known grocery store and don't even allow my dogs to ingest those mushrooms. Mushroom toxicities can be extremely bad news in dogs.

My cousin just had a problem with mushrooms in his yard. He has a CRAZY lab/chow mix. He ate a bunch and wound up with diarrhea all over the house..

Mushrooms are just like snakes as far as I am concerned. When I see any mushroom I pluck it up and throw it in the trash. No need to take a chance between toxic and non-toxic... I don't want a kennel full of sick dogs.
