Anybody else heard the chatter about proposed changes regarding the MNH (Master National Hunter) title?

Something about working with the AKC to add the title to the pedigree.

Thoughts?

I don't pretend to know all the details and the history between MNRC and AKC, but I did get an interesting email today about a conference call.

Just thought I'd start a thread and see what others might have heard (guess it's all just chatter at this point and probably not worth much energy until it does happen).

The AKC is not going to even contemplate a MNH title until less dogs Q for the MN and even less dogs pass.

This debate has been going on for at least 10 years.

The MN has even moved in the opposite direction (more dogs q'ing for the MN) this year.

Info I got said something about requiring dogs to pass 3 MN tests before getting title. I know a lot of dogs qualify each year and a lot pass once or twice, but not too sure about how many pass 3 times.

Currently, in order to earn this "club" title you have to pass twice.

Like I said, this has been ongoing for ages.

Try doing a search on Master National Title.....you'll find lots of info starting at the beginning of time.

As far as I know there is no "national" AKC title that is noncompetitive. AKC has - so far - not shown any interest in the MNRC other than trying to make it more competitive. So absent a major change in thinking there won't be an AKC recognized MNC.

Breaking News - New AKC Title for Master National Retrievers: The MNRC board approved a proposal from the AKC for a new title for our retrievers. The proposal includes awarding the title MNH to dogs passing three Master National Events (current Hall of Fame requirements) and includes a provision to make the title retroactive for dogs currently meeting the criteria. The proposal goes to the AKC board and its approval is anticipated by the first of next year. For details, contact your MNRC regional representatives, an article will appear in the next Newsletter.

Here is the text from a letter that was recently sent to Clubs

Earning AKC Titles at the Retriever Master Nationals

The AKC Performance Events Department feels it is an outstanding dog that can pass the Master National Retriever Hunting Test three times. The owner has demonstrated a commitment to the sport. The dog has demonstrated it can perform in different environments over a number
of years. Three passes is the criteria a dog must achieve for it to be invited into the Master National Retriever Hall of Fame.

The AKC is willing to consider awarding a title to dogs that pass the Master National Retriever Test three times or more.

The following process is suggested by the Performance Events Department and is being provided to the Master National Retriever Club Board for consideration. Performance Events must received written agreement from an officer of the Master National Club prior to making a recommendation for a new title to the AKC Board of Directors.

Title Earned at Master Nationals

The suffix title awarded for passing the Master National Retriever Hunting Test three times would be called Master National Hunter (MNH). This title will be added to a dog’s record which means it will appear on pedigrees.
A dog that passes more than three times would have the accomplishment acknowledged by a numeric designation after the title. For example, a dog that passes four times would earn the title MNH4.

The MNH title will not supersede the MH title, rather it will appear in addition to the MH title. A MNH title with a numeric designation will supersede the previous MNH title. For example, a MNH4 title will supersede a MNH title.

Process and Fees

The Master National Club will track the number of times a dog passes its national event. Once a year following the national event the Club will send the Performance Events Department a list of the dogs that have earned a MNH or higher title (on a form provided by the AKC). The Master
National Retriever Club will be charged a fee of $20 per title to have the titles placed on each dog’s record.

The owner of a dog that has earned a title may wish to receive an AKC title certificate. This is done by the owner submitting a form provided by the AKC along with a $30 fee to the Performance Events Department. An AKC Title Certificate will be created and mailed to the owner. The request
for a title certificate is totally up to the discretion of the owner.

Handling Titles Earned in the Past - The Master National Club may want to “catch up” by recording all titles earned in the past. The AKC will add all titles (the highest title earned) to each dog’s record for a fee of $20 per title. If the club decides to record titles earned in the past, owners may order title certificates.

Yeah, I am with you, Lee. To me it just doesn't add up yet and it does still need to be approved. Of course, we all know that it seems the AKC is very interested in money. Whether or not the amount of money the AKC could bring in for Master National X3 passing dogs and if it is worth it to them is yet to be seen...

If the title is noncompetitive, why do they care how many Q or pass a MN, or would have earned the MNH "title"

Esp if they do not have to do the book work, but only get the test report each year, and people are going to pay for the certificate.... Seems like more would be in their best interest.....

I'm getting dizzy.

Not sure if anybody said anything about making the MNH a prefix title. In fact, I think the letter says something about making it a suffix title.

Anyway, I got my question answered. Seems others have heard NEW chatter about the MNH title. Just thought it was sorta interesting.

MONEY TALKS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AKC IS LISTENING!

At this point in time, IF every owner decided he/she wanted a title certificate, the total fees to AKC (both from the MNRC and the owners for their title certificates at the highest level attained thus far) would be $7950.

Wonder what will happen to all the MNRC club titles of "MNH" that have been given to the dogs in the past who have passed 2 Master Nationals?

Also, it would be even more lucritive if they just gave every dog that passed a Master National the MNH Title and then add the numeric designation every time they pass.
