What does "bird placement" mean to you?

Placing the birds so that you make the best use of ground and cover to test the dogs to the level you are judging. Looking at all factors and placing a bird so that the dog is given every chance to do well if it has the abilities required for the level it is running.

I think this is an excellent answer!! I just wish I had the experiance and training to understand what it meant.

I think Venues should concentrate on Corys statement, and make Judging seminars help you understand what he means!!

I think you, that are accomplished high level handlers and judges could really help others understand this, by holding Seminars for the various clubs in your area~~ No matter what venue.

if you train with people more experienced than yourself (AND YOU SHOULD), ask them when the put the set up together, what they expect to get out of each mark and how the marks interact with one another. what factors do they see and how do they think they will influence dog behavior. this will help you get your training plan together for the series AND teach you about bird placement.

You and I have had our differences, but you are 'spot on' with this one. Nothing I could say would improve on your post, or on my silence!

forces the dog to make correct decisions on the way to the fall

Tim
Tim,

Would you please illustrate some of the decisions a dog has to make on the way to the fall?

Fight the wind
Run the side hill
Angle the road
Angle the ditch
Enter the cover
Enter the water
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.

Goose,

We are having an Advanced Judges/Handlers seminar in April of 2011, this will be covered in this seminar. It is 1/2 day in the class room, the typical material that is covered as in the standard judges seminar, then we will spend 1 1/2 days in the field discussing test set ups, how to judge and actual running of a dog, bird placement and land attribute use. We will set up each level of tests JH, SH, MH and run qualified dogs on the set ups. Each participant will judge and compare scores. It should be a good one that takes it to a new level. CFRC and PPRC are co sponsoring this event.

I strongly urge anyone nearby to attend. When we held this seminar in 09, we had 48 judges/handlers attend and everyone benefited. It is great to hear CFRC and PPRC are hosting another one.
