Have a good friend who owns great danes and coonhounds, and several other mixes running about. Hunting season starts soon enough. She lets them "run free" all the time on the farm. I know plenty of "neighbors" who complain about them. She has taken to using orange spray paint on the dogs during hunting season so they don't get shot... But seems to me that the days on them being okay just running free are gone. I know that trapping season is around the corner.. Do I dare say that if she really cared she could fence them in? I have been there and the dogs are always out. I don't think that some hunters would care if the saw the dogs running to them would wait to find out if they were "friendly"?! what does everyone think???

There is alot of that around here, and there are alot of dogs that come up "missing" in the fall and winter. Id say you might let your friend know what might happen, and if she lets them continue to run then its on her...... Its common knowledge around these parts that a dog that is chasing deer is fair game, i keep mine on a short leash during hunting season.

Her dogs her problem. We had a little coonhound mix that took to running deer. It was shot by a hunter. Can't say its anybodys fault but my brothers, who was the dogs owner. Now, if they are running free on her farm and not straying from the property then its nobodys business but hers.

The first thing is trappers take a bad rap when it comes to dogs. I have had gear screwed with across the US. But the boys in PA are the largest trapping comminty in the US hands down and your right kick off is next weekend. The worse guys on trapping gear are the KS bird hunters. At the end of the day keep your dog under control and no one has to worry about there critter.

my husband being THE trapper in the area, he worries about the dogs. He makes sure not to trap near anyone who he knows that has dogs that run free. It is the ones' that i know travel for miles every day, the dogs are out all day and find their way home every night. it is amazing that the dogs' make it home. The owners' are jerks, no other way to put it. Trapping starts soon, and I swear i am gonna get a shirt that says, We now interrupt this marriage to bring you the trapping season"!! Think I could sell a few and make some extra "bucks". Now that the middle daughter can hunt, changes things abit...

happy hunting and trapping!
