I just heard the Monday night game with Chicago will be played at the "bank" the gophers new stadium. People will be working around the clock to get the 2' of snow out of the stadium and get it ready for football

Dan
Now we're talking REAL football, the Bears and Vikings outdoors in December

Those pansy assed dome teams wouldn't have a chance

Not saying it couldn't be done but it would take a boat load of wiring, and power, to melt 20+inches of snow off that amount of area.

Travis
Wouldn't have to melt 20 inches of snow. It would just have to melt the 1st quarter inch or so and keep on melting it. As the snow falls, it would melt and then the water would run off like rain does. A typical 20 in snowfall would have the water content of only about 2 inches of rain.

Eric

Like I said, it could be done. Just not quite as easily as you suggest. Much better and more cost effective to just build a retractable and be done with it.

Not much "typical" about getting 20+ inches of snow regards -

Ok, yes I do think that the collapse was "non-violent" when compared to falling concrete as some older domes or even upper decks (or bridges) have had happen with no warning.

If the NFL is going to mandate domes in cities, there are a whole list of cities that should have domes for the baseball teams. Football, meant to be played in the elements, shoot the NFL even thinks football should be played outdoors in February in New york city...... BAseball is not. a postponed world series due to a blizzard, and world series games severly altered by cold. That is a travesty. Not to mention risk of injury for a pitcher with a 160 million dollar garunteed contract.

Travis, I will defer to you construction knowledge, what is the cost between the inflatable roof vs a retractable. If you say retractable I will believe you, assuming you aren't talking a Jerry's world stadium though ;-)

I know the metro dome has many other issues, I was just wondering cost vs. benefit.

Dan, call tilleras up, tell him to send nikki down, we will send Kathy up, and they will get it sewed back up in no time ;-)

My cousin played for the Vikings and Bud Grant back when they had REAL football. Bud Grant did not allow heaters on the sidelines, or anything.
The Los Angeles Rams of that era, coached by Chuck Knox with Roman Gabriel at QB were a perennial playoff team, unfortunately for them in the playoffs they almost always seemed to face the Purple People Eaters outdoors in Minnesota in December, the boys from Southern California usually succumbed to the opposition and the weather

Here's the latest on the coming Bears vs Vikings game that even the players have raised health concerns.

The NFL considered by most Americans as the greatest sport in the world yet many teams want to live in the past by playing in obsolete venues.

They should take a page from the new Cowboy Stadium, a monument to the future of the game and study it. Facilities like Cowboy Stadium, the New Meadowlands, the heavily remodled Super Dome are the future and thier teams and fans will not live in the past.

An organization like the Packers could build a new state of the art monument to thier team next to Lambeau Field. Then convert the current Lambeau into a museum/playground. Ditto Soldier Field and the other antiquated stadiums.

That is the single worst thing I've ever read on here. And, Lambeau is already a museum, Packer hall of fame, baby, tours every 1/2 hour..
I suppose you don't like fried cheese curds, either.....;-)

I try to avoid most fried food and cheeses. Try ordering a hambuger without cheese at McDoanlds and watch the place go into a panic.;-)

Six/seven great years with Lombardi out of nine total and they have turned the place into a memorial? That was a awefully long time ago, what about thier future in an old uncovered stadium?

The company I work for Schindler installed the elevators and escalators at both the Gopher TCF Stadium and the Twins Target Field. I was in charge of Target field vertical transportation with over 4 million dollars worth of equipment in it alone. 17 elevators and 11 escalators plus 2 handicap lifts in the dugouts. Sorry to tell you guys , but nothing is even on the agenda for renovating or new construction for a Vikings stadium. Mortenson has the contract if and when a stadium is to be built (also built both of the new stadiums). Either they will be signing a short contract for more dome games, playing at TCF or moving!

Some people (Franco) think the NFL started last season!!!:D

The Green Bay Packers, the standard by which all others are measured!!
