When you throw a dog topper on your gas pickup, your mileage, as a friend put it, takes a kick in the ass.
Is the same true for deisel engines?
City/Hwy?
What sort of mieage are the diesel dogs getting?

Absolutely. Had an Ainley four hole on last year. Took about a 3 - 4 mpg hit on my Chevy Duramax. That, combined with lifting the dogs in and out or hauling the step out and the loss of versatile use of my truck led me to sell the topper this past fall.

They are great for the serious amateur that can fully dedicate their truck to the dogs, but I needed more versatility.

mileage with 6 hole SS Ainley - 13.8 MPG
without the topper -15 MPG
That is on a 3/4 ton Chevy with the Auto trans gas burner 6.0 Liter .
Peace of mind that my dogs are riding in a tank -- Priceless.

Have a 3/4 ton 2011 Ford diesel. Without 8 hole topper 19 to 20mpg With topper and 20+ gal water tank, I drop to about 16 1/2 to 17. Wind is always a variable.
