Ok Newbie here... be nice ;-) (just kidding)

I was reading the rules of HRC attire, and it says "such as camo" does that mean it 'has' to be camo? Sorry folks, camo is not my favorite look, and I know AKC does not 'require' it, and since I will only be running my pup in Started, not sure I want to invest in camo. After started my husband would be running her, I don't handle guns. I was wondering if I could get away with hunter green pants/short and a dark tan shirt or vice versa? Those are the colors found in camo.

Another thought I have is I saw someone last year wearing a camo mesh over her regular clothes. If I can find something like that it might work, again I am just hoping not to spend too much money on something I would never wear again once she passes. The other colors I would probably wear at an AKC test.

I would look to the part about attire being harmonious with the type of hunt, BUT since none of us are mind readers I would opt to wear camo just in case. You could be required to wear white if the hunt is centered around snow geese but I've never seen that in the past 10 years.

I've had a couple of HRC Judges tell people they better come to the line in camo. At least a camo shirt and hat. One Judge told a handler during the brief before the test dog ran that she would not be allowed to come to the line in the attire that she was presently wearing. The handler was wearing khaki colored pants and a black shirt. She was told to find camo to put over the shirt.

Thanks, I needed your input. I have not seen enough tests (HRC) and want to be prepared. Sigh... I will play by the rules, I was just hoping. LOL No don't think I could walk to a line wearing hubby's camo, and hold a dog. He is CONSIDERABLY taller than I am. I don't want to blow it for my dog.

We need to make a Cabela's run soon, so I wanted to know before we go.

so???
fold the pant legs up, to the knee if needed
and then tuck it all into the inside of the barn boots.
you do have barn boots, yes?

I'm thinkin' somebody here never got hand-me-down huntin' trousers:rolleyes:

I own two pair of camo pants and a few camo tee shirts for just such an occasion. Gander Mountain will have quite a bit on sale for off season patterns so happy shopping.

You will need to wear camo. It is being stressed even more this year. I have heard that even camo shorts won't make the cut anymore.

You know Ann,
You start buying properly fitted camo. Handling dogs at tests. Your going to want to keep running as the dog moves up.
Your going to be needing a second dog to keep running while Hubby hunts first dog. Your going to start going along hunting to handle the dogs. Then your going to start hunting. More guns will be need. Bigger hunting blinds. Than a new dog truck once you hit the field trial circuit………..

You sure you want those camo pants?

Slippery slope regards….

Bass Pro has camo t shirts all the time for 5 bucks.
In my tests, you WILL need a camo shirt, but dark pants are OK with me.
Until the rule book is changed to state "camo head to toe" that is how I will interpret "appropriate hunting attire". Most of my personal hunting is from layout blinds and some of my clients never wear a camo sirt or jacket the whole week
BTW, blue jeans will not be allowed at my test.

Oh I am not afraid of hand me downs... just falling down LOL Especially holding a young pup who wants to play. I can make a fool of myself without doing that. LOL

Yup I have the boots, I really don't want creepy crawlies crawling up my pant legs. Been there... done that... YUCK! Still wonder what it was, but man did it bite me SEVERAL times before I squished it but good.

LOL... I hear ya Ken! We started with two dogs... now we have 4. We are contemplating getting a trailer for our equipment so the dogs have more room in the vehicle.

Perhaps once I test, I won't give a darn... Just I used to be considered a 'preppy' so you can see this is a big jump for me. LOL

I saw a lady use improperly fitted (i.e mens) waders at a hunt test one time. A few steps into the muck and she went down hard, but observed gun safety and kep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction while filling her waders.

Get stuff that fits!

Your gonna get all kinds of answers to a question like that because it is not "required" that you wear camo but many folks are trying to make it so.
The rules do not require Camo however, you will make it easier on yourself if you do wear it.

Swimming up stream regards :)

Recently at some of the HRC tests I've attended, the judges have required that the handler wear camo from head to toe. In some other tests, I have worn olive drab pants with a camo shirt and hat. For this "total camo" test I happened to have my husband's camo rain gear. Some handlers really had to scramble to find camo pants.

Since I am our club's HRC secretary, I checked with HRC before putting together our premium. Claudene (HRC Secretary) said that it was the judge's discretion whether to require complete camo or not. She suggested that our premium read " Come prepared to wear full camo".

I know you can get camo t-shirts at Bass Pro for $5 or $10 dollars and I've noticed that some of the Walmarts in hunting country have camo on sale. I picked up a pair of men's camo pants that fit me for about $12.

Hope this helps.
