They actually are performance based. Top pros get top dollar. Based on the performance of the dogs they train and run. Just sayin.......
Actually I find that top pros don't make that much more than good pros or even mediocre pros. And for some reason some of the worst pros I have seen charge more than anyone and still seem to always get new clients??

Not really, Top Pros get Top dollar based on their REPUTATION, or for their past performance on dogs they trained or ran....they are private contractors who ask for a fee, that fee may or may not be indicative on their expertise or competency;)

I would think that with the size of the community word gets around eventually. I realize not everybody gets on RTF but eventually it would catch up with them. Maybe, maybe not but the community is not that large. Reputations can be lost. New ones can be gained, wins and passes are recognized pretty quickly with the "Net"
The more wins and passes a pro gets the more he can justify his training fees. It's in the pros favor (monetary as well) to title, place or win with every dog he runs.
Or am I looking at this wrong?

I feel like their HAS to be a fair amount of trust between you and your trainer. If you trust your trainer...then you trust that when he tells you the dog is ready for a given level, he honestly believes that your dog is ready for that level. If the dog "fails" then the trainer will know if the dog "failed" for some reason other than not being ready, or if the dog "failed" because it wasn't ready. And you have to trust that he will tell you the real reason the dog "failed" If you trust that your trainer is being honest with you then YES HE SHOULD BE PAID FOR HANDLING YOUR DOG EVEN THOUGH IT FAILED!!! If you don't trust your trainer...then he/she shouldn't be YOUR trainer!!

It's always just amazing to me that the most pissing and crying done is in the least competitive sport which is "Hunt Tests".
The first to jump ship at the slightest quick in their dog's training, the first to cry about the tests, the judges, the club, the entry fees,..............
Why is that??????????????
I do both (running and judging).
I say go walk in a Pros shoes for a month or 2.
The second hardest job I ever had. First being a single Mom.
And finally...................
Does anyone realize that it just might be that it's the dog.???
I'm out!

I think your coments are not relavant to this posting. This was only a QUESTION to start a conversation.Nothing more, nothing less.To make a
comment like" HT participants are always the ones complaining" is again,
NON RELEVANT to this posting. Again....facts.I have had the good fortune
to be involved in the hunt test game for many years and yes,I also enjoy running Quals
I've found people complain in BOTH sports. So unless you can deal in
facts and back them up then it may be a good idea not to even say anything
This has been a good thread until your bias coment.

Sue...That's going to fly like a lead balloon! The generalization is too broad. Depends where your ear is, regards

Yes the owner should pay. Do football coaches get paid if the team looses? YES!! If they keep loosing, they might be out of a job, but as long as they are employeed, they get paid, win or lose.

Why??? And where is your ear??? Both venues like any of the dog venues have a ton of pissing and moaning. One is no better or worse.

Yes it could be the dog... OMG. What a concept? I have a wonderful bitch in training that shows up for training 110% percent everyday. Darn near perfect in using her training and making good decisions. When it comes to show time, half the time she's so excited she can't get her go bird. She is thoroughly exercised before she runs and will run blinds in the morning before she gets to the test. There's nothing more I can do for her except get her to a lot of tests to get her over her stage fright.

In training there's lots of people, lots of noise, lots of fliers, lots of everything to prepare my dogs for tests.

This particular dog just needs to be desensitized to game day. That means lots of tests that turn into a training situation.

Yes it happens,,,

One more thing... See that absolutely gorgeous chessie in my avatar??? He's doing master work and ran as test dog at our test in the senior. He acted like a alien dog from mars. We'll be running more then a few tests to get him acclimated...

Yes it does happen....

Angie, Angie, Angie, Don't you know that my venue has much less P & M than the others?
