I know a bunch of you on this forum don't like the SRS game for various reasons so please don't turn this into a bash thread. The new 4x4 medley game was released yesterday and will be held in October in Huntsville AL. I was wondering if anybody had heard and what their thoughts were about the Team concept. I know some were pushing for a higher entry to create a higher payout but they landed on 500 per handler.

If you haven't heard here's the general set up:
1. A team consist of 4 handlers with 1 dog a piece. A team can consist of no more than 2 pros.
2. Entry is $500 each
3. Event consist of 3 series: a FT, HT, and Hunt Savvy.
4. All dogs run each series and receive a score based on performance:
Excellent=10
Good=7
Average=5
Poor=3
Failure=0
5. Limited to 14 teams
6. 75% of entry goes to winning team.

That's the short list.

Personally I love the idea!! I think the concept was discussed on this board years ago with a bunch of old RTF's that no longer post. The general conscientious was everyone thought it was a wonderful idea. There certainly would be a lot of "drama".... :D

That's what I was thinking. And knowing some of these that will run it Boy it should be funny.

I wish thy had done the 2000 per dog deal then you'd be playing for some real cash. $112,000 pot. That would have drawn some attention.

I have no problem with the concept. That said...

SRS chose to schedule this event in Huntsville on the SAME weekend as the North Alabama RC hunt test and the East TN RC hunt test. I have a huge problem with the lack of consideration for these events, which is grossly arrogant. With 28 pro slots available, how do you think they will fill the field without "recruiting" locally? :rolleyes:

I do know that I will coattail any local promotions to remind the amatuer handlers that they have a better value option available; an option that could get a leg to a MN qualification, an event that will be run in Alabama in 2012. ;)

Done with the rant.

does accepting "prize money" jeopardize one's amateur status ?

Seems like it would be a LOT easier to just go ahead and mail Lyle a check and let it go at that.

No Fuss No muss regards

Time to start recruiting

SO FAR AKC and FT clubs have not cared about prize money.
Amateur status deals with "any part of his or livelihood from training of a dog for hunting or field trial competition and/or the handling of a dog in field trial competition at any level."
The rule is clear as mud and the enforcement can be selective.

If some of these people that have great dogs weren't scared to play maybe he wouldn't dominate so much. I've seen a bunch of dogs around the country that could do well in this game but are scared to test the water.

No offense but I don't think any of these dogs are scared. There is just not that much in it for them. Look at Danny, Danny wins the only one he competed in, lost Jack to Lyle and lost a couple of very high profile clients for running it. Not much to gain..
