I think I must just not be good at this stuff. It took me a month and a half to FF my PUP and then I started Simple Casting According to TRT. I have been working on Over for what seems like weeks. and I thought it would get better but here is what is going on.

Single bumpers on each side and throwing them back each time the hand signal and "over" comand works well. For several days we did this then added an extra bumper to each pile and continued to return each bumper to said pile after each retrieve. We moved to a 6 bumper pile each time returning what he trerieved. (I made a post about new bumpers the other day....I now have all new uniform bumpers no shopping!) However I stopped returning the retrieves and started culling. When I discard a bumper its almost as if he forgets what Over means he will flinch toward the pile when I say over but stop like he isnt sure that I want him to continue with the retrieve. So I give the command again. Again he refuses. I the go to Fetch and reach for and an ear pinch......He bolts for the Pile. But this is constant no improvement.

Any Idea what I could change or Improve on? Please Help We have to get past this!

I will assume that since you are doing TRT that this is mini T you are working on.
In T work there are no "cold piles" the dog needs to have each pile established. Since you are asking about over How is his back cast?

When I started T, I started with the back and did not move on til he took both right and left back. To get over I set the pile about 10 yards on each side and with the dog on sit facing me and attached to a check cord I gave the over cast, and I would continue to move holding the cast and saying fetch till the dog was heading strong to the pile. next step is add "Fecth, over" then just over. Use the check cord to control the dog. E colar on the dog but "DO NOT USE IT". This is all about getting the dog to go. Don't be nit picking the small stuff . Sit, cast over and praise. Have a bunch of bumpers in each pile but do not feel the need to have the dog pick them all up in one session. Always stop training with the dog wanting more.

If you have already pushed the dog past its limit and nit picked it to death then you created the issue and now you will need to get birds to get desire back.

He is good with his back cast and has all drive I could ask for with that but when moved to the over piles I had to make a few corrections becuase he took the wrong cast left when he should have gone right. I used my check cord and no EC corrections. Could these corrections have confused him? Or maybe Im just confused. Yes I am using the Mini T But I think I must be setting it up wrong. should it look like a T or a t?

The way I work it I have Reese facing me about 3 yards away on each side of him about 10-15 feet away is a pile and Directly behind him. And when I say Cold Pile I do Identify the pile with one bumper but I dont continue to return the bumpers to thispile. Is this wrong? Thanks for your help! PM me if needed.

Hey, J! FWIW, I just watched Lardy's video on this...If I remember correctly, he said not to correct (e-collar) if the dog took a wrong cast. He did say that a correction may be necessary if the dog lacked effort. Like, you marked the pile, and he then took the wrong cast. Then the correction would be indirect, sit-nick etc. Maybe no collar corrections for awhile and just a focus on teaching. Good luck!

I think you need to go back and watch the progression on TRT pile work again. If you got to piles and he won't do an over then you missed something IMHO. Generally overs are first then backs.
