The "blue laws" need to be changed. I am a Christian who rarely misses a service at church. In fact, my relationship with God is the foremost part of my life. Hunting and training dogs, although very important to me, are further on down the list. We don't have a law like that anymore in Alabama so I usually duck hunt before I go to church on Sunday morning, and dove hunt before the evening services. That provides me with priceless time with my son, which I feel is one of my most important responsibilities as a Christian father. I certainly don't think God minds that! The bible says that Sunday is a day of rest. I don't know about the rest of you, but very few things relieve stress and take me away from the hustle and bustle of life like watching a sunrise in a duck hole somewhere.

I live and hunt in Va and don't think most hunters are fools and unsafe but I am not for hunting on Sunday. I think it gives me and the animals the chance to relax, move stands, dogs to rest and so on. All everyone wants to talk about is ethics and sportsmanship the pray should have a day off to. jmo and not based on Religion.Plus football is on.

Some of us dont work a regular week!!

Most of us do, and making a SUNDAY a day for wildlife to relax, or dogs to be lazy BY LAW is just another way to REGULATE!!
Regulate can be of a MORAL action or a CONTROL action. Either way,, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!

I dont give a FLIP what YOUR religion or Actions on Football sunday are!!

I believe I have the FREEDOM to do as I like as long as I am not hurting anybody! Seems to me to do with thing called the constitution!
Life,, Liberty,, and the pursuit of happiness.

Ifn your church or Football team wants you to take a saboth day and bow to them,, thats fine with me,,,just dont try and make it a LAW that I am REQUIRED to follow.

Maybe all them Football Players should be in Church on sunday,, and not out on a field knockin the snot outa each other!!

Thats It!!! NO MORE FOOTBALL ON SUNDAY!!!

Thats not PERSONAL freedom folks!!

Look

If YOU PERSONALLY have an issue with hUnting on Sunday!! I get it!!
SO,,,, Then YOU dont hunt on Sunday!!
Go to church,,watch football,GO TO WORK,, what ever your life Liberty or pursuit of happiness guides you.

If you are a landownwer that believes Hunting on Sunday,,,Wednesday,, or Monday,, isnt ethical,, thats fine by me ,,, I respect YOUR opinion for the use of your land.

But when GOVERNMENT wants to dictate what we enjoy a Freedoms!!

I got a problem!

I did not mean to strike a nerve but just like you have your opinion I have mine your are not wrong or right and neither am I. I did not know that I could not post something different then what you like so I will take it back and let democracy decide this vote. The gov dictates everything if we like it or not. Should we hunt 365 days a year? should we add Sun and shorten the season so we don't kill to many ? I for one with the way the seasons are now think shortened would hurt as here hunting just gets good in Jan. Have a great day and I will not bother your world again Sorry.

what other provisions of the Sunday Blue Law are tied into the non hunting restrictions...and what is the overall feeling from the residents of the state,is your goal to put the measure up to a vote by the residents or just get the legislation passed without letting the residents decide for themselves...like I said before I support your effort but since I am not a resident of your state, I dont think that its up to us determine what is good for your state

I think this is a fair sentiment shared by some hunters in the Commonwealth. It certainly has been engrained over generations due to the ban on Sunday hunting.

You didn't clearly state in your post above if you were against our efforts for a repeal. There are some, and I believe you are one, who wouldn't make the personal choice to hunt on Sunday but are not against the repeal. I could be wrong. But I do know one thing....football is on isn't the answer! j/k

You are correct. I am for free choice and would vote to allow hunting on Sun just would not hunt myself. The worst injustice in Va is people who put up blinds not to hunt but so you can not hunt. IMO

This is exactly why the repeal must happen. Either argument for Sunday hunting is selfish. Everyone has their own reasons for it. Kids and the future of the sport, work schedule, religion, and the list goes on. The one thing everyone wants is to be able to choose what they want to do on their land. This is 100% a personal property rights issue.

Should we hunt 365 days a year? should we add Sun and shorten the season so we don't kill to many ? I for one with the way the seasons are now think shortened would hurt as here hunting just gets good in Jan.

Regarding the season duration and dates they would start and end the same time. The only difference would be a new split in the middle part somewhere.

Using waterfowl season as an example (since this is the RTF) our season has one split in early December. If Sunday's are added the seasons would look almost the same as Arkansas'.

Here is an example:
VA Season Now
11/19 - 12/3
12/10 - 1/28

Arkansas Season
11/19 - 11/27
12/8 - 12/23
12/26 - 1/29

So, again, we have 60 days now for duck season, we keep 60 days with Sundays. It'll be something very similar.

Deer season and the like will also see similar changes.

I hope this answers some of your questions. Let me know.

There are no other provisions. The code says(paraphrasing here) no hunting on sunday as it's a day of rest.

The most recent poll done by the VDGIF showed 63% +/- in favor of Sunday hunting. The vast majority of non-hunters in the Commonwealth aren't even aware you can't.

The way it works in VA is we have to have the General Assembly repeal it. That's what we're going for.

Great! I hope you'll call or join the Facebook group to help.

The blind problem is one that really burns me up....but that could get to 10 pages on here!

"....the blinds burn bright all thru the night...deep in the heart of Texas " ;)

Well, let me give the other side of this.....

I hunt. I do not support hunting on Sunday however. Sunday is the one day that I do not have to worry about my grandkids and now my great grandson being able to be out in my fields to play or ride their horses without the worry of the idiots that lease the property next to us. I can leave my farm to go to church and not have to worry about a stray shot injuring any of my animals.

One day of peace :)
Ditto Vicky! I hunt a lot. Haven't hunted a day on Sunday. Sunday mornings should be spent in church and for building relationships with your family.

if that is what you choose to do..... I prefer to spend time and build relationships with my family in the marsh / woods....among many other ways.

There is always a late service to get to church.

And on top of all else there is that old separation of Church and State issue.

So while I respect your position it should not play into the reasoning for the legislation.

Please don't prevent me from enjoying the woods because you want to be in church. no disrespect intended.
