Anyone have any ideas/ability to help get a rescue chessie from Seattle to New Mexico? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance. She's a sweet dog and is an easy traveler, gets along well with others.

My understanding is that last month she was found on an anchored floating dock out in Puget Sound. The person who found her took her to a vet clinic where a local Chessie Friend works. Michelle and the clinic tried contacting all of the shelters etc and made no progress finding the owner. I've only had her a few days. She's a really sweet gal and we found her a home on 25 acres with an experienced Chessie owner who currently has an 8year old. He's originally from Monroe, WA. and has been interested in another Chessie for a few years now. Glad this all will work out for her. She's a really nice dog with a great personality.

Paul, I know on the east coast we have regular transports (tons of them actually) that run south to north up and down the coast constantly. I THINK there are some that do the same on the west coast and I'll try to find them for you if they exist. Here, it's a dime a dozen; not sure about there. It's usually $100-150 per dog.

I'll let you know if I find anything...

The potential new owner is getting a wonderful, healthy dog and he won't spend the jingle for a plane ticket??? That's a red flag in my book...

Angie
It's usually not necessary. And outside of the retriever world, lots of ppl very worried about putting dogs on planes, esp rescues or unknowns where we aren't sure how they'll react. Not like our dogs who couldn't care less when you put them in a crate and plop them on a plane, truck, wherever... LOL Not every dog is like that.

Nothing wrong with trying to hitch a ride -- ppl do it here all the time!

I'm going to post some links if you want to pursue them -- as with anything, trust your gut... I'll only comment if I know anything about them.

http://operationroger.rescuegroups.org/ (hard to understand their website, but might be worth contacting. I have heard good things, but I can't tell where you even request transport on here)

http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/CaRescueRR/ (yahoo group CA-based including neighboring states -- might be one of your best bets to get a good referral or better idea of what's available).

What part of NM?
Can you wait till after the National?
Can you get her to Oakdale?

I'm in the Farmington area. I'm driving to the National, and I'll stay as long as my dog is still playing. I hope he lasts through the tenth series, but so does every one else.

With those conditions, which are sort of nebulous in terms of time, I'd be happy to carry her to NM.

He's offered to pay, I offered to try and get a trip down before he buys a ticket. Just thought I'd through it out there if someone was going that way or near that direction. I'm not sure there's a huge market for 4-5 year old spayed Chessie females???

It can wait as long as needed. The owner said he'd drive anywhere to meet anyone. He's real flexible and I can keep her as long as needed with me. Thanks- lets stay in touch. Paul

I just lifted this snapshot from a facebook post of Pauls. He is giving her birds while she waits for her ride. She seems to like um!

Thanks Kati. It looks like the stars are aligning. Crossed fingers for a ride to the National....Looks promising that she's got a ride(don't want to speak too early)to the National and the ride from Oakdale to New Mexico is set up.
