Sanding drum attachment

Coarse grit

Dremel is SOOOO much easier! When I worked at the kennel I took my Wolfhound in and had them do her nails. I took a wolfhound head to the jaw. Broke my tooth and a few months later had an abcess which resulted in having to have the tooth pulled. Start them early and do it often!

My two old dog s about three times a month since they are not as active and wearing them down. My working dogs never, they do their own grinding everyday amd never need attention from me which is just fine.

I've found that irregular nail wear on one paw compared to the others can be an indicator of hidden injury. When a dog has longer nails on one paw compared to all of the others, it may be because the dog is not bearing as much weight on that leg.

I'm not sure I can manage an electric dremmel safely.

Do battery operated dremmels work ok? I am hoping battery might be a little slower. I find an Oster Gentle Paws for $20--too cheap?
The cheap ones are under powered, eat batteries, and too loud. You'll end up buying a better one anyway, LOL.

Thank you. Looked up the cordless Dremel. I can buy a "minimite" with a NiCad battery under $30, or a model with a lithium battery $65.

Did find advice on keeping hair out of trimmer. Use a stocking, and poke dog's nails through the stocking to keep hair out of the way.

I had a battery operated dog nail Dremel that wouldn't hold a charge and was too slow. I switched to my electric single speed Dremel and it works great. The key is to use a sanding drum and only grind on a nail for a few seconds to prevent heat buildup.

I stop at the first sign of blood from the quick because I read somewhere that you have to remove nail material up to a few thousandths of an inch from the quick in order to have the quick recede. I grind about once a week ( it should be every four days) and I've got to get them shorter because I'm tired of hearing the click, click, click on the laminate floor.
