I am tired of wrestling with my home made flagman, I have enough problems as it is, so I'm going to buy a bunch of flagman. How many do I need for training alone?

It is cheaper to buy all at once.

three to run a triple. four for a quad or to have two at a simulated flyer station etc.

4 minimum. I have six. I rarely put them all out, but almost always put four. For a random triple, I will put at least two to simulate a flyer station. Also, you need at least 4 for ABCD drills, etc.

I use the ones from LCS and get the tyvek painter coveralls at home depot to put on them. http://www.lcsupply.com/Retired-Gun-Rack/productinfo/RGR/

I have one of the RGH ones but don't like it and don't use it.

I have 6, but that's because on the really long guns where I have a winger or on a short mark I want to make very, very tempting I'll put two. Normally on what I think is the money bird, my husband will hand throw. You can't replace a live bird boy!

But 3-4 should be enough. And I would recommend Butch Green's stickmen, I have yet to see Lou's Magee's (sp?) first hand.

Edit: I also use 4-5 for drills (marking singles off multiple guns mostly)

Lainee, it's Lou Magee.

Lou's stickmen are a bit heavier than BG's. Either will do a good job.

I use BG's, but we used a training partner's Magee stickman the other day and I have to say I was VERY impressed.

when I go duck hunting I don't have any stickmen around me wearing white shirts ???
Nor do I. But when I train for duck hunting I do use white stick men or throwers in white.
You put three ? After your post. Do you have a question about using white coats to train or are you just stiring the pot?

I don't understand why to use white stickmen.

I don't understand why to use white stickmen.
There are likely many reasons. The most basic reason is that you want young dogs learning to mark to see the bird. With a gunner in white, you get the pups attention for the throw. They are helpful when teaching early multiples as the dog will see the gunner and it may help the dog remember the bird. They are helpful when running marks with very strong factors in that you can be comfortable in knowing that the dog is giving in to the factor and hasn't simply forgotten the mark. They are useful in making a gun attractive to the dog like when teaching two down the shore. The suction of the white may influence the dog to get out early.
Many trainers of both hunt test and hunting dogs use white In their training.

I use Butch Green's. Like that they are easy to carry out and set up. I have 3. I have training partners that have used the larger stick men for drills because a person can hide behind them, but for field marking I prefer BG. Makes nice blinds too!
