I have a 14 month old lab with dew claws should i have them removed?

We have two Golden Retrievers with dew claws...just fine. I like them on.

I like the dew claws gone do to being in the house and snaging carpet and clothing. It should be done as a pup. I have a friend and all his dogs have their dew claws. It would be a major surgery now to have them done because the bone is hard and it would be like cutting our thumb off.

Dew claws need to be removed within 72 hours of birth. After that time the cartlidge begins to turn to bone and then surgery is required. It is a rather simple operation when done by the third day.
