Alright so I just searched a lil and found Evan's youtube video about teaching to hold, my question is at what age should you start to teach this? I ask because I've noticed my pup chomping at his bumper and dropping it alot and grabbing it at one end, he'll be 12 wks on friday, is this something thats going to get worse or should i just let him be a puppy

Agree with mugger.

When the time comes, just always keep in mind that this is a very frustrating, monotonous time for you and the dog.

Lardy's TRT 2nd ed. covers this nicely, but Danny Farmer takes a little more time with this step and explanins it a little more. To me, it was very helpful to hear one of the gods of retrieverdom saying that this step is very trying, and requires patience, patience, and more patience on the trainer's part. Nice to know you're not alone in your frustration.

Hold is generally part of the Force Fetch process. That will not start until the pup has his permanent teeth in which is around 6 months of age.
I agree. That's the general rule I follow, and it's suggested in the SmartFetch program. Many young dogs at that age are pretty mouthy. Shoot me an email if you would like to discuss options for the present. rushcreekpress@aol.com
