if you think you don't qualify as creative, you only have to be more creative than me, which doesn't take much.

Here goes: I have lots of 8mm video and still photos of my deceased dogs (3), most notably my first lab who I lost at just over 11 years of age. He was a great dog, but I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't have much equipment, good resources or friends who knew what they were doing. Still he managed to get his UH, HR & SH. In capable hands he surely would have accomplished much more. He was a fantastic hunting partner and probably the best all around dog/pet/buddy I'll ever have, but I digress...

I'm going to capture the video on my computer and make a DVD of my individual dogs (3) that I've had over the years. I will mix in a large number of still photos too, so I want to put the photos to music, but I can't think of any good songs to use. Any advice on good songs? The video footage will include: puppyhood, playing/goofy video, training, hunting and hunt test footage. The still pictures, pretty much the same. The only song I can think of with any application at all is "Feed Jake," but his name wasn't Jake. I know there are some folks on here who are much more creative than I am and also much bigger music buffs, so let me hear some ideas please!

Thanks in advance!

Garth Brooks "the Dance" comes to mind. Something that reflects each dog's personality that you can enjoy listening to what you want. Too slow and sad and you'll cry every time you watch it. (at least I would) For the goofy part "Who let the Dogs Out!" would work for me.

Yeah, I actually thought about "The Dance" for my second lab who I lost very young to Parvo (they don't finish the shot series until they are roughly 5 months old and they aren't immune until they have had the whole series - he was around 3 months old), misdiagnosis and unnecessary surgery. He was going to be something else.

Thanks for the input.

If I were to do something like this, I would include: Eric Clapton's tears in heaven for the old deceased dog stuff.

I would have some Greg brown and bill morrissey "fishin with bill" for the easy going outdoor stuff. Rolling stones. "shattered" for water entry shots.

Some queen "we are the champions" for the ribbon shots...

SomeEagles "take it easy" for the road trip stuff....

Showing my age?

Not bad Chris. I'm not familiar with Greg Brown and Bill Morrissey or "Fishin With Bill", but I'll look it up.

Thanks.

John Hiatt has a song called "My Dog and Me", from an album from a couple of years ago. I've used it for pictures of my dog, after we went to New Orleans after Katrina

Nevermind. I found it elsewhere. Thanks.

For those of us that don't know or didn't remember the lyrics:

Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
cause I know I dont belong here in heaven...

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?
Ill find my way through night and day
cause I know I just cant stay here in heaven...

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please...begging please

Beyond the door theres peace Im sure
And I know therell be no more tears in heaven...

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
cause I know I dont belong here in heaven...
My Dog & Me - John Hiatt

She marked our trail
Up the back bone ridge
How many times can one dog pee
She keeps me high as an eagle
When i'm on the skids
I guess you gotta come down eventually

[Chorus 1:]
Buddy i coulda gone that extra mile
For an extra bark or an extra smile
'Cause i never felt so free
It was just my dog and me

Then she gives me that look
Like she'd lay down her life
No doubt she would in a minute, man
She'd face the bullet
Oh she'd face the knife
Just to keep my butt from the fryin' pan

[Chorus 2:]
Now she's runnin' up ahead to chase some deer
Comes back to tell that coast is clear
It's a different world i see
When it's just my dog and me

There's a rabbit on the run
Man and beast ans sky and sun
Who's talking to the birds in the trees
Why its just my dog and me

Now it looks like we've been makin' tracks
From the crack of dawn
To the end of the day
So its nice and easy down the devil's back
She wouldn't know
Any other was

[Chorus 3:]
So its over that ridge for one last mile
'Til we're fast asleep by the fire side
Dreamin' these dreams for free
Just my dog and me

Brad Paisley
When I Get Where I'm Going

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly

I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

[Chorus]
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck

[Repeat chorus]

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah when I get where I'm going

HuntinDawg,

I think that's a great idea. I'd ask you, though, what kind of music do you normally listen to? Which artist do you like?

Myself, I'm a Tom Petty fan (my first do was name after a Tom Petty album, "Damn the Torpedoes", which fit him well)

For training shots and videos, I'd use "Learning to fly", by TP, but that's just me.

Who do you listen to?

I will listen to just about anything except hip-hop/rap or classical. I have bought very little music in years and generally listen to talk radio, but if you looked at my CD collection you'd see:

Aerosmith
Allman Bros.
Black Crowes
Bonnie Raitt
Casting Crowns
Chuck Berry
Cream
The Cult
Dire Straits
Eric Clapton
Garth Brooks
INXS
James Taylor
Jimmy Page
Led Zeppelin
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Pink Floyd
Rich Mullins
Rolling Stones
Third Day
Van Halen
The Who
ZZ Top

I like some of Tom Petty's stuff too, although he isn't a favorite. "Learning to Fly" is a good suggestion.

Thanks for the input. I'm still looking for more ideas - hoping for some that really hit home.
