This report from Iceland is not the only record of retrievers being used to hunt seals. Nancy Sydnam of Anchorage documented a group of Alaska Natives who used a large Chesapeake to retrieve seals from the surf.

They are Icelandic labs. As you can tell they are all handled by Amature handlers which would lead us to believe they are very easy to train
