I had that happen, someone got one of my deposit slips and used a check printing program to make up checks with that number on them - they were able to cash several hundred dollars of checks at my bank, without ID and with the wrong routing number on the checks. (Deposit number is different than the Check number)

I suspect an inside job at the bank as we shred our bank docs before they go in the trash
