I'm currently doing remediation training with a black Lab; he came in with the biggest engine you've ever seen, brave as a lion, superb gamefinding ability, and no brakes.
So far so, good, we're getting the basics down pretty well but the time is coming when I'll need to teach him lining. I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity to take lining a dog further than I have before, and in particular teach US style push / pull which I've also never done.
First requirement is a good video of somebody demonstrating lining a dog via push pull. Secondly any comments and ideas from them what's done it as to howdydoits plus pitfalls and potential mistakes.
The final request might be the hardest; what is the smallest angular displacement you'd regard as realistic when lining a dog from your side on a blind? Or put it another way, at 200 yards distance how close do you guys put one bumper to another and still expect the lines to be differentiated by Fido at the end of his training? Assume a field as flat as a soccer pitch with medium grass cover, the dog having no cue from gunshot or thrower ... just a true blind.
Regards
