I would strongly suggest your son to ask the breeders for references from hunting homes, and then to make sure his idea of 'serious' hunting matches their's.

Regardless of anyone's biases reading the threads labguy posted should balance the perspective that you'd get by simply talking to toller breeders and researching kennel webpages.
