I need help. My 3 year old male CBR has Obsessive Compulsive Genital Sniffing. I don't know how to put it any other way. When other dogs get around, they all play, but he is obsessed with sniffing crotch. It's bad. He does not respond to any commands what so ever. I have removed him from the situation, and re-introduced him once he calms down to no avail. I have shocked collared him, flogged him, used positive reinforcement with treats and other distractions. He acts crazy even on the leash when the other dogs are around. I left him at the breeders last month for a week, and he was around 6 bitches. I thought they would beat it out of him, or get it out of his system, but that did not work. I'm at my whit's end. It's not fun when he gets like that. I hate to take a 3 year old back to basic obedience, and start over. Is that the answer?

I cannot tell you how hard it is for me to not comment on this post. In my younger years I would not have the restraint to do this. Even after several Brandy's after training tonight I still restrain myself but I am sure others will not be able to and I am looking forward to their comments.

Okey dokey- when a behavior becomes all encompassing and obnoxious its a PITA for sure. Sounds like you have tried all the typical tricks. Go back to basic obedience and teach 'no sniff', when he is on lead he can't sniff anything. His freedom is in the yard only. Sounds harsh? I had one drove me bonkers. When it interfered with HT coming out of holding blind I knew I had to fix him, both figuratively and physically. It worked for us. Ruckus spent months hearing and feeling No Sniff. Now its part of all my dogs repertoire.

I can't blame anyone for making funny comments about this. Talking with others, if sounds like going back to obedience is the best bet. Some one had mentioned putting Vicks on his nose when he does this. I also like the no sniff thing.
The breeder said he do does need to learn some manners and I left him at her place for a week with no results. I think it was like being at the playboy mansion, with a you can look/smell, but no touch policy.

Hmm, Vicks Vapor Rub...heard that one before to keep show dogs from sniffing out bitches in season.
Is the dog force fetched? I've seen a few dogs with some OCD-ish type issues almost become cured with a good solid force fetch. It firmly defines that the dog is in #2 position.
And it's really hard to crotch sniff with a large bumper in his mouth....

I have one that does the same thing, only when all the dogs are out runnning around. He also humps my fixed female and didn't want anything to do with a female we wanted him to hump. Could any one shed light on that?

Get him around some mature mean tempered but fair females, they'll teach him some manners. I have one that would chase him down and flip him if he were to investigate to long, it's pretty fun to watch a young males eyes get all big as he's flying through the air.
The fixed female wanted him and the other one did not, she probably told him off, and then he didn't want nothing to do with her. They can do it with just a look sometimes, some girls you just don't want to mess with

Thanks Hunt'em up. The funny thing is the female in heat was flagging and putting it in his face. O well maybe she wasn't his type.
