In 1986 I was fresh out of High School with very little money so the stock market meant nothing to me.

Ah the 80’s….I don’t remember them but I know I had one he!! of a good time….

I was on the verge of my second of 13 seasons in Vail, trying to get onto Ski Patrol after deferring my law school entry for another year...it was to be followed by another and another...we had just gotten our first black lab, Biko, who was to be our boon companion on 10 years of hikes, daily fly fishing excursions and mt bike rides. He couldn't find a duck unless it was in his dinner dish, but he could smell a ham sandwich 2 mountain ranges away, and made sure only to use his power for evil. God I miss him...

I was 32, single, and dint give a flip bout money!

Only things I needed was a good dog , old truck, flyrod, and a good rifle and shotgun.

Somewhere about '95 or so, sumpim musta hit me in the head and things changed!!

If youda told me when I was 32 that I was gonna be followin the Market in my later years, I'd called ya Loonie!

I was 32, raising silver fox, **** hounds, and English bulldogs and working as a nurse in a nursing home.

October 15th, 1986 I was in the Sonoma valley with my now wife visiting cousins, touring the wine country and spending cool evenings in a hot tub overlooking Bodega Bay.

20 years later to the day, that same special woman and I sat with my Mother as she passed away. Hard to believe it has been a year already.

On October 15th 1986 I was in Idaho's Selway Bitteroot Wilderness on a 10 day guided elk/muledeer hunt. I didn't have any money in the stock market as I had gutted my retirement plan the previous January to begin a two year sabbatical away from my 11 year old dental practice. Those were two fantastic years! No loss for me!

October 1986 I was 30 years old and living in FL at the time. I had just gotten lab #2 to join the 9 year old lab that I had. I was working full time for a less than stellar boss and working part time at a greyhound track. Also starting to wonder why I ever married him.

Glad the 80's are over regards,

Andy

I'd gone through a divorce that year; kept my half of the stocks, and two goldens--Emberain Lady Nell*** and my CH, UD golden male. I had my real estate license and was selling houses like they were going out of style. Today, I still have some of those stocks and right now I can't sell a house for love nor money!!! The market's so bad that our town was in Businessweek's on line magazine as one of the worst places to live/buy a house/or work. Still have goldens, still training, and trialing.

I didn't learn about the stock crash of 86 until two weeks after. I had to interest in stocks at the time so I didn't pay much attention to financial news. I understand it was all over the news and a big stock market event at the time. I was taking a month to drive from New Orleans to Los Angeles, starting a new job with KROQ "World Famous K-Rock" and was somewhere between Durango and 4 Corners when it happened. Probably the best drive I ever made!

A fraternity bro of mine who'd just graduated and went through stockbroker training started on his first day of work with Dean Whitter that very Monday. Needless to say his stockbroker career was short-lived.

He's the same guy who started his dot.com business just before the dot.com bubble burst.

Watching the news I was wrong on the date. The stock market crash was a year later on Black Monday was in 1987. I had mutual funds that had been redeemed to build a house in the metro area I could afford twenty miles from the university. Urban sprawl has since surpassed the location and the same type of area is 40 miles north.

The house kept me financial embarrassed for a number of years.

I was coaching 7th grade football and teaching 8th grade U.S. History. Actually had time to play golf 4 times a week. Became a High School football/baseball coach, then bought my first dog in '91 , and the golf game went south.
