A cryptorchid doesn't scare me... Yes it runs in certain family's like bad bites. I feel it's a pretty minor issue in the big scheme of things.

Wait until a year of age or so and remove the undescended testicle and leave the other. Hormones play a huge role in so much of a dogs health.

Breeding?? Chances are slim to none. There's a ton of national caliber dogs that never get bred. So it really isn't part of the picture unless you decide to buy a bitch and breed her to him. Which you won't. It's always a fanciful thought but that's as far as it gets.

Thanks for the replies. Pretty much confirms my thoughts. As I said, I was not really considering breeding him, but wasn't really planning on not breeding him when I got him either - figured I'd determine that down the road if he was clear and if he was good. Kind of disappointing to have to take that option off the table like this even though it didn't figure prominently in my plans for him.

I think I'll wait he's about 18 months old. By that time I'll be pretty much positive it's not going to drop. Still have not decided about leaving the one that did drop or not.
No reason to remove it. The hormones that, that one testicle produces does a lot more for your dogs health then just reproduction.
